Departures in the development squad
at 11:44 13 May 2024

they need to make space for the 4-5 that will be promoted from the u18s - there were 4 last year, kolli, talla, sackey, petrie (where is he?). the rest presumably from successful trialists

Departures in the development squad

yeah pretty standard fare Dave, its largely a clear out of the older ages.

Pedder, Kargbo, Rendall, Ajose, all 22; Jude-boyd, Woodman both 21.

that said, the club have been getting more ruthless with the U21 squad - no longer racking and stacking older age lads for one. started last summer

“Forever grateful” a term usually reserved for a player who has given great years of service or is a club legend…

And “difficult decision in January was made” - really? So difficult in fact, that you’ve now released him?!

Players we should have kept

Think you’ve got to be an exceptional talent if you are on the light side - iniesta being a good example. More on our level, chair is a good example, but he’s stocky and well built. It’s a big difference. Watched Bansal-McNulty many times, talented but powerpuff which is why he didn’t make it

I don’t think he is even in the professional game anymore?

Had skill and talent, but much like Pedder, and far too many others we take on, far too lightweight for the men’s game. Was never going to make it in my view. The academy needs to start prioritising talents who have the right physical stature needed to succeed at championship level.

Palace put price tag on Eze
at 22:12 6 May 2024

Wharton is absolute mustard and it was obvious to anyone who watched him play for Blackburn. 20m a steal. As was Eze. Palace continuing to do great recruitment, but it’s far from rocket science. Think many prem clubs underestimate the top young talents in the champ. Kudos to palace for that.

I agree but it wasn’t relevant to the question that was asked. The question was why over 10 years at Wycombe was GA successful, but not at QPR?

It was a backwards looking question, not current day or future. But in terms of looking forward, yes I agree, the future looks very bright for the Chairboys and they will no doubt be a totally different club.

Limited game time due to the game model?

Come off it!

He’s not played because unfortunately he wasn’t at the level required. Presumably the same reason he’s now been released.

That said, a great lad who wore the shirt with pride and always gave his all. Best of luck to Ozzie at his next club.

Wycombe are a totally different club to QPR. Both clubs are not comparable on any level. Most fans at Wycombe are just happy to be surviving in league 1, since they spent the majority of their history in the conference or lower. They have little expectations or standards - they have what I often describe as small club syndrome, which holds them back.

As for the players themselves - they are very much the underdog. Players are typically recruited from non-league and lower, or aging pros on their last legs, happy to be told they are indeed the underdog (=second best), because it is largely true. They have little coaching and tactical expectations. And they understand the only way to compete with the so-called big teams - due to their supposed inferiority - is through work rate, and work rate alone.

I am far from saying this is the only way to manage a club like Wycombe, but does this context help to understand why GA worked at Wycombe, and not QPR?

He’s not really a right winger though. His best form by some distance was as a number 10 under Warburton, and he’s also shown he can effect games there better under Marti when given the last 20 minutes in some games (replacing Andersen)

Is Reggy Cannon now the only weak link in our defence?
at 13:36 5 May 2024

Understand you have some inside knowledge. But what I’m not following here is the idea that Cannon walks into the side fully fit because he just doesn’t seem a marti type of player to me.

Fully fit or not, he hasn’t looked at all comfortable playing out from the back, or in tight spaces, which seems a pre-requisite for a full back under MC with license to build the team next season.

Yes.

However, the team - who played passing out the back football for years - was suddenly instructed to bang it long at every opportunity during GAs tenure. Fortunately, I think that experiment is well and truly over.

Played half of those games at left wing for Eastleigh, so not a bad goal return up top.

Bear in mind that most u21 teams are fielding the best of the u18s, who will soon be promoted into the team. And it’s also the time of year for trialists everywhere. Not too sure it is the cause of any drop off, as it’s a level playing field essentially.

Not only that but most u21 teams regularly field the best of their under age groups (u16-u18) anyway - something we seem to be finally catching up with. i.e. prioritise the best talents, expose, and fast-track them into the upper age groups. No idea why we haven’t been doing this prior, but good to see the change in recent months.

Willock - Will He Stay?

Come on E15, if you try and police what people should or shouldn’t be taking about by claiming the moral high ground, people will probably respond in kind.

The Ainsworth topic is obviously a touchy subject for you for whatever reason, perhaps because you were so invested in his success or know him personally.

But it’s a public messageboard and people are free to express their views. Also insinuating some haven’t moved on…. is a bit rich coming from the person who walked straight back into the Ainsworth topic at the first mention! 🙄 enjoy your Saturday evening, we are staying up!

Still defending Ainsworth to the hilt E15! Can only assume you must be a family friend Given how close we were to the drop thanks to Ainsworth, fans have every right and reason to revisit the subject as they wish. All aboard the Marti Party!

Think some underestimate the impact of his injury problems on his game - he clearly couldn’t sprint or plant his feet earlier in the campaign. Maybe psychological, but whatever the case, he’s come through it.

Still our best talent for me. Not surprised if he’s talking with interested parties e.g. Sunderland, as his agent will only naturally be flogging him about for maximum $. But still hold out some hope he may resign. Would love for him to stay.

In answer, not really no. I’ve watched Sinclair since he was in the 18s and originally posted on here about his potential.

I commented at the time, he had explosive pace, but no hold up game - and that needed to improve if he was to make it at this level.

Currently, there has not been enough improvement in that regard - both touch and technique, and I wonder if he can ever get to the levels needed.

And that’s before we talk about finishing. There is a LOT to work on. Jury is definitely out for me. Would love for him to stay of course, definitely some raw attributes to work with. But not for silly money that he agent may want.
