He was lucky to get away with an 'air' kick as well today, totally missing the ball and having a 2nd go to clear it. I also thought he could have done better for their 2nd as well. |

I'll take the result, but it was again far from convincing and 2nd half as in recent games was abysmal. You could just sense an equaliser coming. Most of the team look absolutely knackered, 25 minutes from the end. I didn't disagree with the need to make some changes, but like other recent games, the team looked all over the place after the changes. There just didn't seem to be any cohesion. The last 10 mins was exactly the same as the Middlesbrough game, sitting deep, not shutting down quick enough and just inviting problems. I'll take the 3 points, but it was far from convincing, especially in the 2nd half. [Post edited 9 Apr 21:55]

I remember 'rush' goalies at school. Most of these used to dive when the ball was in the net to make it look good. I know a few recent Saints keepers that still do this. |

You are assuming Stephens doesn't play in goal ! The love in Martin has for Stephens, I wouldn't bet against it. [Post edited 8 Apr 20:52]

Not quite, we know Stephens will play. The rest are all up for grabs, given Martin's comments nobody's guaranteed a place, and given he will not drop Stephens. [Post edited 8 Apr 17:21]

They did stop running. As soon as KWP and the rest of defence and Midfield got to half way line, they stopped. KWP hardly ventured past the half way line against Blackburn. He was obviously instructed to do this. [Post edited 8 Apr 17:19]

Agree, Ipswich's worst nightmare would be to meet Norwich in play offs, which is a distinct possibility. I wouldn't 'rate their chances either, in beating Norwich over 2 legs. Norwich seem to have some momentum at the moment, and with Sargent back, they look a decent outfit. Not sure how Ipswich would cope with disappointment of not gaining automatic promotion and having to play their local rivals. |

Blackburn manager (John Eustace) made this quote after the game, ""It was an excellent, really exciting Championship game" What a load of Bol***cks these managers come out with. |

Normal service resumed. 72% possession in 1st half and not a single shot on target. How many times have we said this ? |

Based on 1st half today you wouldn't know he was on the pitch. Some may say he didn't get a fair shot when at Saints, but I never really rated him. Showed odd glimpses, but generally anonymous when he played. |
| Forum Reply | Southampton At Ipswich The Verdict at 16:28 2 Apr 2024
It did seem odd for KWP to be dropped, even if he did have an average game against Boro. That did not warrant dropping him. Others have had many crap/average games and still get picked (or found a place in the team !!). I am wondering if he has spoken up and said what most people are thinking that RM didn't like ? You just dont drop your best player for the most important game so far this season. [Post edited 2 Apr 16:29]

With all these stats, why are they not being fed into the 'magic box' at Staplewood, to come to the same conclusion we all seem to have ? He definitely, needs a rest, especially now we are out of automatic promotion. |
| Forum Reply | Where are the young players from Staplewood? at 13:20 2 Apr 2024
.....and probably why they got rid of Alcaraz on loan because he did not fit the mould for our farcical possession based football. He was the one player who had the ability to open up defences and not scared to have a shot, but was probably getting fined for not playing 5 yard side/back passes. Yet he is good enough for Argentina squad. |

They are not ready yet. They have not learnt yet how to play 5 yard useless passes, mess around with the ball in our own penalty box and buckle under pressure in last 10 mins of games. I am sure it will happen. Even in the small glimpses we have seen of Stewart, I doubt very much he will be play as an out an out striker, instead getting drawn in to tippy tippy football on half way line. |
| Forum Reply | Just not good enough at 20:14 1 Apr 2024
Well that confirms our position in play-offs only, finishing 4th. That will probably mean 2 leg game against WBA or Norwich. The Gap is too big to challenge top 3 now. I now hope that Leeds catch finish in top 2. Back to todays game, I have given Bazunu benefit of doubt all season, but today he was culpable and slow to react for all 3 of their goals. |

There must be more to this ? I just don't get it, dropping KWP to accommodate Stephens. And we still don't play our best CB pair. There is some good news, Smallbone has been dropped. |
