at 14:14:50

BUT! Ruben Amorim has apparently agreed to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool so they won't be wanting De Zerbi,
Damn!!

If he goes (please!!) who comes in?
My fave at the moment would be Carlos Corberan, After being Marceko Bielsa's right hand man at Leeds he took Huddersfield to the playoffs in his first job, Now at West Brom, they would be the team we play in the playoffs as things stand!!

Southampton At Blackburn The Preview
at 14:47:49

"This is a game that we can win, should win" ???
We have been saying that for ages. And guess what? We don't!
We must drop Bazumu. His shot-stopping is just not good enough. Nothing to do with poor defending. His ability to get to attempts is one of the poorest in all four divisions. Time to give Joe Lumley a turn.
We had a great unbeaten run. But even then we didn't catch the 3 teams ahead of us. Because we drew too many games "we should win"!!
I worry for the play-offs with RM in charge. The teams we are likely to face have already beaten us and with RMs tactics and subs we face a real possibility of failing.
Joe Egg suggested Steve Cooper. I'm not a fan but feel he is likelier to pull us through the play-offs than RM but wouldn't want him as our PL manager.
I can see us dropping more points tomorrow.

Southampton At Ipswich Town The Preview

Why play Adams? He's leaving, everyone knows it. He isn't playing for his place or future. Get someone in who is playing for a spot next season - Mara? At least till Stewart is fit (??????)
Our on- loan keeper Lis is in stunning form, a sackful of clean sheets and a super-high save percentage, far exceeding Baz's. His residency permit should be up for next season so maybe a change there?
Monday? Not driving down from Yorkshire on a BH so will watch the game in comfort and with the benefit of an off switch. I am not hopeful of a good result so will be hoping we get to 3rd for a 12.30pm ko on 12 May!

Southampton V Middlesbrough The Verdict
at 20:04:18

Why is Che Adams playing? He's going, everyone knows it. He's not playing for his place or future, someone will buy him. And he cost us the game. I'd rather see someone like Mara instead. He'd be playing for a spot next season.
Middlesbrough's goal was always coming, me and all around me knew it. We just waited and boing!
We could have Badnarak on, packed the middle of the defence with 3CBs, and had someone tall who could have stopped the header instead of a diminutive FB.
RM seems not able to read a game when we're under pressure. Agree with Nick about AdamA. We should have had 5 at the back 4 in front and AdamA loose up front for the wellies up the pitch! Not pretty but who cares if we get the 3 points that could have got us back into serious contention.
At least on Monday I'll be warm and dry. Not driving down from Yorkshire on the Bank Holiday!!

I don't mind bringing in Bree and to switch KWP to LB. BUT, OH NO! Stephens in for JB!
Adams in despite very poor showing against Sunderland.
Martin needs to realise he (Adams, not RM!!) will be leaving in all likelihood so play someone who wants to be here! Mara will be keen to earn a place for next season whereas Adams doesn't even seem to want to be in the shop window.
Nice to see Sulemana given a start. Hope he does a Liverpool.
And Leicester continue on their downward spiral. Keep it up!! Win! Win! Win! Saints

No Room For Error In Southampton Promotion Push
at 12:18:33

Nick, in amongst that are the three away games against teams above us. We only have one game in hand over Leicester who, if they win their game, would still be 6 points ahead of us.
We need to win our games at Leeds and Ipswich but they have lost only one game between them all season! Anything less effectively puts us out of the automatic places.
The mistakes have already happened. We blew it donating points to the two worst teams in the division. RU have 4 away points all season, one of which we gave them!
I like your positive attitude but I think reality needs to come into it!!

I think it's too late worrying about errors. They've already happened:-
PNE Away 2 points given away
RU Home 2 points given away
HT Home 2 points given away
Mill 3 points given away
9 points and minimum 5 gd. Would see us right in the mix for automatic promotion rather than hoping for others to drop points.
Realistically we are facing the lottery of the playoffs. May 12 @ 12.30pm if we finish 3rd. May13 @ 8pm if 4th

As myself and many others have been saying for the last few of weeks, the right people in their right place. We go from miserly to charitable as soon as RM messed around with the back 4 and then JS comes in! Revert to our 2 best CBs, Bree on right if KWP out, Manning on left.
The rest pretty much picks itself although one or two are pressing for starts. Make good, and proper, use of them as timely subs.
We need goals and we need wins. To get a top 2 finish we basically need to win every game. It's only 11 games! Maybe we've had our dip and we're heading on a run. Other teams have looked vulnerable. Let's take advantage.
My biggest worry is RM continues to tinker and the teams behind catch us. If we don't make the top 2 we want 3rd for the best draw - play 6th. At the moment we'd be 4th so play 5th.
So stop phaphing around Go for tight defence and plenty of goals. (plenty of goals?? HaHaHa)

Southampton At Liverpool The Preview
at 11:20:21

I remember playing Bill Shankly's Liverpool in the second tier, the only time Liverpool had ever been relegated. Shankly was very impolite about Saints: "we shouldn't be expected to play teams like this" as reported in the Southampton Daily Echo (no instant tv reports those days!)
We beat them 4 - 2!!
They got promoted, we had 6 more years of lower tier football until promotion alongside Man City (2 teams go up on merit, no play-offs)
Looking at previous comments above I wonder if people actually watch games. Or for that matter read reports!
Flynn Downes gets ill regularly. Ryan Frazer was injured in a bad tackle, out for a month.
Unfortunately Jack Stephens is fit! Guess he'll partner TBH with Joe L in goal.
I'd have Bree and Meghoma as FBs, Shea Charles as DM with Aribo and Rothwell making up the midfield. Up front I'd have Adama on the right, Sulemana (Edozie?) on the left and Adams as striker.
As my family are predominantly Liverpool fans/season ticket holders (I'm the only family member not born in Liverpool) I will be staying with them and be sat in the main stand!!!

Southampton Promotion Campaign Will Go To The Wire
at 17:53:41

If you look at the remaining games we have the harder run in. Most of our games are against top-half teams and our record there is poor compared to the other teams. With the other 3 sides playing having an easier run-in we are going to have to improve our record against top-half teams and hpe for some upsets for the other three teams.
I don't understand Nick's obsession with catching Leicester. Our aim is to go up automatically which means Leeds especially losing as many points as possible.
We need Leicester to stuff Leeds by a convincing margin and we to win convincingly, close the goal difference.
In fact the next five games are eminently winnable. We should go into them aiming to score highly, not concede, and pick up 15 points. Forget Leicester, 2nd will suffice and that should be the first target.
We just want to be above the other 22 sides at the end and back in the PL.

Southampton V Huddersfield Town The Verdict
at 12:06:18

It seems to becoming a habit having poor first halves. Just go back 3 days to the Watford cup game. If we play like that against good sides, our nearest competitors for example who we have to play away, we are going to get beat. WBA Friday will be a difficult game; they have a decent home record.
Being televised it's just the sort of game where we get comfortly beat leaving the country wondering what the fuss about Saints was all about.
Others have commented about our slow starts. It was put down to squad players coming in for cup games but has spread to the league.
Where has the smash-and-grab attitude where we always seemed to score early, gone.
RM has to get the balance right. He has sorted out other problems. I hope he fixes this soon or good bye automatic promotion.

Danny Ings Doesn't Want To Drop To Championship Claim
at 15:30:57

If Wolves are the only club interested he hasn't many fans. Wolves seem to be linked to anyone that can even half kick a ball.
Since he left us he has hardly set the world on fire. We got him into the England camp; since he left he's not even come close. He made a bad decision.
Tough. Live with it. Just not with us!!

Southampton V Cardiff City The Verdict
at 15:08:20

The same possession football but each game there is less tippy-tappy at the back. Remember back to Sheffield Wednesday? 80% possession but barely got over the halfway line.
The football is starting to be fun. Even the drive back to N Yorks through the snow was eased by a warmer contentment from the game.
But the goals! Or lack thereof. Once the chances start going in, which they surely will, and we maintain defensive stability, we can start pressuring the 3 teams above us. Ipswich is possibly the weakest and could suffer from a smaller and weaker squad when injuries and heavy programme kick in. Our squad is starting to look strong and we have decent cover in most positions.
Away games against the top 3 could be crucial.
But let's enjoy the feeling from yesterday. 2 players, AdamA and RyanF, should have had hat-tricks. Our GD should have improved by 4 or 5 goals ay least. But it all seems to be coming together. Long may it last (Unlike the snow!)

Agree this is a chance for some of the "back-up" players and youngsters. Aribo and Mara didn't look out of place yesterday. Ryan Frazer should get a start. Tyler Dibling too.
I saw an article by one Kelan Sarson for FootballFanCast that Dynel Simeu could soon replace "an ageing Bednarek"!! He's 27 for goodness sake! Mind you, the same Kelan Sarson suggested RM should drop Stuey Armstrong for the Cardiff game as being a week link!!

Retro shirts! How about some retro football? Bring back memories from the back of Milton Road??!! Wee Georgie! Super Late Great Ron! (I always wonder how he got into the Gateway Hotel first after the game??!!)
Bang in a few goals like the 9 against Wolves.
My poor aging heart suffers with only 1 goal. Not sure how it'd fare if we knock in several but I'd risk it for the fun and enjoyment! And a more pleasurable 5.5 hour drive home.
