Rampant R's to Brum Rush The Show Match Thread
at 21:26 17 Oct 2026

Didn't see the game but caught a bit of intermittent commentary while driving. The stats (I know) suggest it was fairly even. According to the BBC Charles only made 2 saves from their 11 shots. Their keeper made 4 saves from our 12 shots. Suggests their finishing was more clinical. Our chance conversion hasn't been great all season.

And we only won 36% of our tackles.

But plenty of excuses for a poor performance. Just hope enough of the wounded can play next Saturday.

Rampant Rangers rout wretched Rams (again) – Report

Smyth has become so important to this team. It's obvious when he's subbed off that we lose so much. He's obviously got pace, but he's irrepressible, bounces up from challenges, is always willing to run at (and often passed) the defender and he's enthusiastic. He knows how to win free kicks and penalties, sometimes dubiously, and always looks like he's enjoying himself. Not the most skillful, but a real diamond. Wasn't my pick for MotM but deserves Clive's accolade.

Derby Reflection
at 09:05 15 Oct 2026

A comfortable win but not as convincing as the score suggests. We scored 4, but I thought they were a mixed bunch of goals. Great to see Alfie score, but I thought the keeper might have done better. Second goal a softish penalty and I'd like to see Nico give pens a bit of welly. Third well struck by Harvey, but fortunate to find a line through a tangle of defender's legs. Forth a big deflection. Our xG for what it's worth was only 1.52. But maybe this makes up for all those shots that didn't trouble the keeper in previous matches. But I don't want to complain about a good win.

Derby were poor, but I was impressed with their spirit. Heads didn't go down and they managed 15 shots, Pierce having to make 5 mostly easy saves.

And a shame that the pass of the evening from Edwards on the half way line threaded through the whole Derby team was put just wide by Poku after his excellent angled run.

Edwards MotM. This could get predictable. Kamara and Smyth also excellent.

The Calciopoli Scandal (2006)
Juventus faced their heaviest sporting punishment in 2006 for match-fixing and influencing referee selections.

Relegation: Demoted to Serie B (Italy's second division) for the first time.
Title Stripping: Stripped of their 2004–05 and 2005–06 Serie A titles (Scudetti).
Point Deduction: Initially given a 30-point penalty in Serie B, which was reduced to 9 points on appeal.
Bans & Fines: Key executives like Luciano Moggi and Antonio Giraudo received multi-year bans from football, alongside a €80,000 club fine. Read more on Wikipedia's Calciopoli Trials page.

Capital Gains and False Accounting (2023)
Juventus received financial and sporting penalties regarding irregularities in transfer fee accounting (Plusvalenza).

Point Deduction: Docked 10 points during the 2002–23 Serie A season after appeals, dropping them from second to seventh place.
UEFA Ban: Handed a one-year ban from European competitions and a €20 million fine by UEFA for Financial Fair Play violations in 2023.

And there was that Glasgow team as well.
Rangers were placed in the Scottish Third Division in 2012 due to severe financial collapse, liquidation, and a subsequent vote by lower-league clubs.

Financial Collapse: The historic club suffered from years of financial mismanagement and unpaid taxes, sending the original company into administration in February 2012 and eventual liquidation in June 2012.
New Company Formation: A consortium led by Charles Green purchased the club's assets and formed a new corporate entity ("newco"), requiring them to reapply for membership in the professional leagues.
SPL Rejection: Scottish Premier League (SPL) clubs voted to refuse the new company direct entry into the top flight.
SFL Vote: The Scottish Football League (SFL) member clubs voted 25–5 to reject placement in a higher tier, choosing instead to enter the restructured club at the bottom of the professional pyramid in the Third Division for the 2012–13 season.

West Ham tickets on sale Tuesday - 3,000 allocation

Hackney Wick worked fine last time if the Mildmay line (or North London Line as I used to know it) is convenient. Gets you to Highbury and Islington and west London quickly. Short queue to get on to the platform.

Rather late but yesterday's Guardian had an obit. Nice piece but it doesn't mention her habit of showing up late

Clear red for me. If you dive in recklessly (I can't see how it wasn't reckless) you risk causing serious damage. The fact that the PNE player was just a millisecond late so didn't get the studs on the shin is irrelevant. Cirkin took the risk diving in like that.

Players losing control and lunging like that are nearly always dangerous.

Sonny Rollins RIP
at 09:15 27 May 2026

Very sad, but what an inventive musician. I think I remember (memory not what it used to be!) seeing him at the Lyceum probably in the 80s - an evening of endless melodies woven together in a continuous stream. If anyone can confirm that would be great.

Good to see some jazz fans among the Rs faithful. At one of my earliest games, probably the famous 75-76 season, there was a guy standing on the loft terrace holding a Coltrane album - a sure sign that we attracted 'cool' supporters!

Agree we should consider this.

Love Loftus Road but my knees don't. Transport links would be a big plus.
