I took my girlfriend there on a first date to see The Guana Batz which I assumed were a nice middle class Goth band but turned out to be psychobilly and we spent psrt of the night hiding under the stairs while the fighting raged amongst the heavily tattooed flat-tops....

Also saw a truly dreadful soft rock band called Florida as part of Live Aid whos main claim to fame was that Lawrie Mac's son was in it.

Where have you been the last few years? 'Banker' and 'Knows What He's Doing' in the same sentence!

If it snows tonight who will be skiving off work?
at 08:48 18 Jan 2013

Not any-more. If you have more than 2 periods of 4 days or more off sick in any year you are put on scrutiny and have some explaining to do to the higher levels - interviews etc.

And we never get any snow here.

Honestly.

I have been studying the schedules of various BUSINESS posters on here, and in between driving (relaxing in the sumptuous leather of their luxury motor cars) corporate sponsor events, charity golf days, team motivational breaks, bonding over drinks with the other young thrusters, stuffing their faces at expense account BUSINESS lunches and dinners, reading the Mail, Express and Sun to ensure an informed and balanced world view, and posting on here, they only actually work for 34 minuets a week.

And that's just getting some compliant sap to sign a bit of paper for a new photocopier, which he will do anyway because he knows he will get a free Biro in a presentation case and a night out at 'Flamingos' Gentlemen's Club.

Meanwhile, here in the Public Sector....

Proof that this country is broke
at 09:39 15 Jan 2013

London is a separate country now, and all focus is on it and its commuter lands (growing by the day) I cant understand how this has happened given that we have roads, railways, video conferencing, the internet, etc and we are not exactly the size of Russia.

Remember last year the thrusting young things at Policy Exchange (along with their more fanciful thoughts of freeing up the economy by abolishing the minimum wage, bringing back the work house and burning unmarried mothers at the stake as an example to others) seriously suggested 'abandoning' the north all together. These people have the ear of the movers and shakers in our lovely government.

Should read the posts,

Certain members of of my family and several relatives think both programmes are wonderful.

But then the same people cant stand Fawlty Towers, Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Family Guy.

It's grim up north...
at 23:54 10 Jan 2013

Ignore most of that.

Not sure about the bigotry of Yorkshire folk, their woeful attitude to customer care or their laziness and jealousy of all things southern. No, hang on, I am sure. Its bollocks.

I lived in Leeds for years and if the Mancs are any friendlier you'll be on for about 50 shags a day.

The (nearish) north,(not the tundra up near Scotland, which has its own bleak charm), has fantastic countryside, cities market towns and stunning villages, is well connected by road and rail (its not that far) is overflowing with history, great for fishing, loads of football within easy reach etc and the people are freindlier, generally, than you will find in Southampton or London, where I have also lived.

And I found the weather to be good - a bit more continental - ie Hotter in summer and colder in winter, with more snow.

Its notable that the only time P*mpy managed to win the title was when everyone was still living on powdered egg and suffering from rickets.

More disgraceful scenes in Northern Ireland
at 11:06 6 Jan 2013

Bunch of Knobs - Exactly the same as the other lot. Basically they cant wait to get out in the street, marching around, shooting, setting fire to things and handing out punishment beatings.

Supposedly this is all over flying a flag at certain times - not banning it, not leaving the UK.

But they do it because they enjoy the violence and the power it gives their little groups, rather than any loyalty to anything.

Their version of 'Born To Run' is actually better than Bruce's, if you've not heard it.
