Southampton At Brentford The (Damning) Verdict
A couple of thoughts:
1) Why do we not have a leader on the pitch?
2) Why do we not have decent coaches?
The combination of these two could be due to Ralph wanting full control but he needs to show some humility and sort both of these areas out in the summer.
Also, I am increasingly unsure if Ralph is the man to take us forward. Whenever we have done well it always comes to a crashing end!
I'm fed up with the lack of effort from so-called professionals who are paid an obscene amount of money to put in below par performances week in, week out. I wish supporters would stop chanting their names as if they are gods . They're not - they're a bunch of lazy fvckers who should be called out for what they are.
Southampton At Brighton The Verdict
I agree with the comments about the coaching staff - this is where a complete overhaul is needed, including a strong number 2 for Ralph. I though Tella and Adams actually played quite well.
My overwhelming impression whenever I go to Brighton is that they epitomise what happens when commercial interests take over. Nice ground, well run club but soulless atmosphere and painfully quiet fans. I suggested to one of the after the game that you couldn't really call them supporters as they don't actually support the team - not a happy bunny! I thought our support yesterday was good - trying to lift the team even after going 2 down in terrible fashion and fewer anti-Pompey songs.

Why do so many of our "supporters" whine before a ball has even been kicked? It's really sad to see. Even if you have doubts, as I did, keep them quiet until after the game and then judge.
RH got it right last night - what he recognised that none of us did was West Ham were knackered. The bench was his plan B. He may not have the luxury next round but let's see what happens.
Southampton V West Ham United The FA Cup Preview
I have read that the FA have not allowed us to play in yellow & blue tonight. If so, shame on the FA and we should play in yellow and blue anyway - what could the FA do?
We should play in yellow & blue for the rest of the season and I think that, as fans, we should wear yellow and blue rather than red and white. Also we probably shouldn't be singing about the "red army"!
I know these would be gestures but they would be a good sign!
Southampton V Norwich City The Verdict
Highfield/HTO - interesting points. The win wasn't that easy but luckily Norwich had completely the wrong game plan.
Re Broja: I'm not sure he is the answer! We need someone with his hunger for goal but, as has been mentioned above, someone who wants to be part of a team - for teams like Saints this is often the greatest asset (thinking back to the early/mid '80's). If he had Long's attitude - what a player he would be.
I want to also say that I was in the Kingsland/Northam corner and I thought the virtually nonstop support was amazing - the feel good factor is definitely there but, as has been mentioned before, there could be some more originality in the singing.
Southampton Now Genuine Top 10 Contenders
A1079 - I share your pessimism when it comes to Saints! I think key difference now is that everyone from the new owner down to the fans seems to be enjoying Saints! There will be bumps along the road - after all we are Saints - but I feel more confident now!
Southampton V Manchester United The Verdict
It looks like it's fun playing for Saints again and therefore it's fun watching. There will be bumps in the road but I, like others above, am looking forward to the next couple of years.
The best news is that we have shipped out the deadwood - for me the only exception now is Theo as he is clearly past it. Now is the time to build in the way we failed to do when RK left.
In terms of positions:
GK. FF - when his head is in the right place he seems to bring confidence to the team. Offer him a new contract, ship McCarthay out (on a free if necessary) and bring in another, decent goal keeper to fight for the no.1 position. Otherwise, keep Willy.
Full backs. Perraud - what a revelation. I saw a comparison recently to Golac (one of my favourite players). KWP, Tino - great players. I think we need one more full back - maybe Small, despite his torrid debut (where I don't think he had the support he needed).
Centre backs. Salisu is quality, despite the odd lapse. The other 3 are all decent players to play alongside him and we have Simeu coming through. Ideally we could do with some more experience here but not a priority for me.
Midfield. Again, we have a great top 4 players but I'm not convinced of the depth. Not sure how long Romeu can keep going but he is so under-rated! Pleased to see Moi finally playing well - he is a class player who is also under-rated. We just need some more consistency here.
Forwards. Finally a partnership! I would send A.Armstrong out on loan to rebuild his confidence. It has worked with Moi and FF, so I would try and get him to Celtic or Rangers for a season. We have some decent youngsters so they could understudy Broja/Che. We should break the bank for Broja or come up with a clever deal with Chelsea that works for both parties. He clearly loves being at Saints and would probably not get the game time at Chelsea.
Southampton At Tottenham Hotspur The Verdict
Absolutely buzzing - I can't believe the turnaround in the last couple of months. Supporting Saints is fun again. I was hoping we'd hit 30 points by the time of the cup game so that we can focus on beating the cat kickers and hopefully a run to Wembley.
PS - would you rather beat Spurs or Pompey?
Southampton V Coventry City The FA Cup Verdict
To be fair to Small, I think Diallo must share a proportion of the blame for his poor debut - to me he kept drifting across so that Small was crowded out. It didn't help that the first couple of things that Small did he unfortunately f*ckd up. Also no other player seemed to take any leadership and be talking to him.
A Armstrong is way off the pace and Theo was just woeful - the latter should never play for the first team again. Maybe he should take Olly Lancaster's place in the B team?
As he is not a CB, I thought Valery played really well for the majority of the game - certainly looked better than Stevens.
Willy must be above McCarthy in the pecking order now. The double save in extra time was wonderful and his reaction to the offside also so
The subs worked well - what a goal each from KWP and Stuey.
Final word - JWP was immense. He was everywhere and was the fulcrum for our midfield.
Southampton's New Owners Blocked Salisu Transfer
DBW - only a relatively small part of United Group, in which Solak owns 33%, operates in Serbia. They have far bigger operations in Greece. Also, I believe he has changed nationality to Malta.
Not to say his wealth could not be impacted by events in the Balkans but he is not as exposed as you make out. Also he does not own Saints - Sport Republic (a business in which he owns a stake) are the owners. As a result I don't think we are hugely at risk, although this can always change.

Nick, I agree about moving on but it is you who keeps bringing up Gao's ownership and making unsubstantiated claims about non-existent investment. It's about credibility. Opinion is one thing but statements that are not supported by fact or evidence is another.
I am very optimistic about the current owners taking us in the right direction and the main thing that I have noticed since just before the takeover is the greater sense of positivity all around the club, both on and off the pitch.
I promise not to mention Gao again - if you do so as well :)
New Southampton Owner Won't Be Pumping In £500 Million For Transfers
"When Gao took over in 2017 there was initially a lot of optimism, he intended to invest money but almost immediately found that due to increasing tensions between China and the West he was unable to do so because of the political situation."
Nick, please provide proof for this comment, which you frequently repeat. If you can't, please can you stop repeating this - as far as I can see there is no evidence that Gao ever wanted to put any money into the club.
I do welcome Sport Republic as they have set out their stall in a sensible way. Everton, as an example, are not sustainable (Moshiri announced another £100 million last week) and I'm not convinced that Newcastle will achieve that much.
Southampton V Manchester City The Verdict
The reason this is important is that the fans and the team then feed off of each other - hopefully win win! I've even noticed the greater positivity on this forum! Watching and discussing football should be fun! There will be bumps in the road but I think the general direction is hopefully onwards and upwards - something we expected years ago!
Re FF - totally agree about the concerns. However, he inspires far more confidence than McCarthy.
