"Season 6 of Slow Horses with a new writer making it too American with fights and chases and some cold hearted killings. One of my favourite shows not season 6 though." I'm halfway through season 5, and to be fair, there have been plenty of fights, chases and cold hearted killings in the first 5 series, so..... are you saying there are even more of 'em?? Anyway, got steered to Slow Horses reading this thread, and if you take away the utterly ludicrous nature of most of its storylines, it's compulsive viewing because of its brilliant characters, with Gary Oldman to the fore. WHAT a role this is for him, and he plays it with such aplomb - some of the lines are genius: in the laundrette, he's just put his clothes in a machine: Sam: 'aren't you going to put any powder in with those?" - Jackson: 'narr, they just need a rinse'. And, 'you're about as useful as a paper condom'. I could go on. Just brilliant. |

We were so dominant in the first half - tactically spot on, playing with focused intensity and confidence (Charles' toying with them epitomised it) - that it didn't look like men against boys to me, the gulf in class was so wide it was like modern humans v Neanderthals*. *Apologies to any Neanderthals reading this and I accept all us Europeans have approx 2% Neanderthal genes. |

I thought it was brilliant - toying with Derby, winding them up - it showed supreme confidence. And yeah, maybe not the best pass in the end, but it reflected our total dominance of the game at that point. |

How can it be "absolutely clear" when LBlock did not once mention the 'great replacement theory' or even reference it. He did not use the word 'dilute' or even suggest it. You're actually making things up and then responding to them, angrily, and at the same time claiming the moral high ground. I find that plain weird. |

Without wanting to turn this into yet another 'one of those' threads, you have - at least as far as I can see - conflated issues that LBlock didn't even mention; you're the one introducing the idea of the 'great replacement theory' and then playing the 'racist card', in response to something he didn't say. It is an incontrovertible fact that for decades western governments have relied on mass immigration for economic reasons. It is also incontrovertible that rapid population growth (and it has been incredibly rapid in Spain) can put short-term pressure on housing markets, local healthcare systems, schools, and public transport if infrastructure investments do not keep pace. Spain has recently become a textbook example of a Western government explicitly using immigration as a primary lever for economic growth. While many European countries have tightened borders (look at Denmark, for example), Spain’s left-wing coalition government under Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has pursued a fundamentally different approach, heavily tying its economic strategy to workforce expansion. In April 2026, the Spanish government enacted a historic migration regularisation scheme, offering legal residence and work permits to undocumented migrants who arrived in Spain before 1 January 2026 and could prove at least five months of continuous residence. While the government initially anticipated 500,000 applicants, nearly 1.2 million migrants applied by the close of the application window on 30 June 2026. This has inevitably had an impact on housing and the whole social infrastructure. There are some facts, for those of you calling for them. |

It is possible to do both Brooklyn. I'm well into all those car restoration shows and extreme survival shows like Alone... I've also been known to get carried away by Strictly. Personally I think Celeb Traitors is pretty naff and I'll be honest, I fast forward through all the silly 'challenges' just to watch the psychology. The stupidity of some of the contestants in the face of the bleedin obvious is kind of entertaining. |

Thought Withnail was a terrible choice as a traitor (too obvious), and that was before he blurted out the truth. It's almost inevitable he will be outed, leaving the already under-suspicion Maya and the quivering Acaster to try and hold out. They must have some kind of plan B, because if they're both outed, what happens? I've never watched the show before, so maybe there is a contingency. |

I thought his reply was tantalisingly brilliant - you will have the answer on Friday! My take is that we will see him involved. |

He didn't look happy though. When he plays well, he has a smile on his face. Last night he looked miserable. |
