5 at the back didn’t work. It just meant that our midfield was overrun by theirs and gifted them possession. They exploited our unfamiliarity with the system and the gaps between the 3 centre backs and full backs. In the first half Bree provided virtually no protection to Lyanco, who struggled with the pace of their forwards. We looked a lot better in the 2nd half with a back 4 and Lavia in central midfield, however the tie had been lost by this point. It was strange to see Jones abandon his recent tactical switch of playing JWP as a number 10 as he looks our biggest goal threat. |

It was good to see a battling second half performance. Our display in the first 30 minutes was dire. With a few exceptions, there was just a distinct lack of effort. Mainland Nile’s was particularly abysmal. Still glad to see us get some lucky breaks and good to see those players that cared such as JWP,Lyanco, Aribo and Armstrong (although he still looks like a Championship player). |

Terrible weather and the result wasn’t much better. However, didn’t think we played too badly up until the first goal. Basically had 15 mins of sloppy defending, with Vestergaard being most culpable. We kept hitting long high balls to our front 3, who were never going to win anything in the air against Mee and Tarkowski. Not sure that JWP and Stephens warrant some of the criticism above. |

A fair scoreline, given how dominant City were in the first 30 mins and the amount of possession they had. We played well for about 15 mins and could have had a pen when on top. I thought that Lemina for the second game running was really poor, no energy and too slow picking forward passes, although I read somewhere that he’d had a stomach bug, which might explain his performance. I thought Elyounoussi was woeful after half a season it’s difficult to see what he offers the side and he doesn’t seem to have an end product. Despite the loss I still think we will stay up and that Ralph is the right man for the job, it’s going to take him sometime as we have a big squad full of mainly average players. |
