Former Leeds United manager Neil Redfearn, 52, is due to converse with Ladbrokes Championship outfit Falkirk with a view to succeeding Peter Houston as the club's new manager.

The former manager of Leeds United, Neil Redfearn, may soon become the first English manager to take charge of Scottish team Falkirk since the 1950s.

Dewsbury-born Redfearn, who in his playing days was a nomadic, workmanlike midfielder who sported the colours of some twenty different clubs, served as an interim head coach for United on two separate occasions before securing the role permanently in November 2014.

Leeds had, prior to his permanent appointment as head coach at Elland Road, already dismissed two head coaches in David Hockaday and Darko Milanič, and despite steering the club he supported as a young child away from the dreaded relegation zone owing to his favouring of a 4-2-3-1 formation, Redfearn was unceremoniously replaced in May 2015 by Uwe Rösler, formerly of Brentford and Wigan.

Prior to the periods in which he was responsible for coaching the first-team, Redfearn had performed the function of academy director, presiding over the development of young prodigies such as Sam Byram, Lewis Cook and Charlie Taylor. He returned to the role in June 2015 following the appointment of Rösler as United's head coach, but resigned six days later.

On October 9, 2015, Redfearn was declared manager of Rotherham United, who were embroiled in a battle to stave off relegation. After 21 fixtures in charge of the Millers, he was relieved of his managerial responsibilities in February 2016 having won only five matches since his appointment at the New York Stadium. He was subsequently replaced by a seasoned campaigner in Neil Warnock, who guided Rotherham to safety by a margin of nine points.

Redfearn has since not found managerial employment of any kind, though the Scottish Daily Record newspaper have today reported that he could succeed Peter Houston as manager of Falkirk, who have won a mere one match this season. Houston had been the club's manager since 2014, and the former Dundee United manager guided the Bairns to the 2014-15 Scottish Cup final, though they were eventually defeated 2-1 by Inverness Caledonian Thistle. With Falkirk a dismal eighth in the Scottish Championship, the task at hand would be a most stern test of Redfearn's managerial abilities if he is to secure the job.
