Apparently he wasn't as blue-collar, conservative as his record company wanted him portrayed. His views on marijuana changed radically, and his choice of the follow-up to "Okie from Muskogee", "Irma Jackson" (a song about an inter-racial romance), was changed for the sake of the persona that was propelling his career.
