Gallen’s late strike floors Wrexham and keeps faint play-off hope alive – History 22nd Jan 2026 13:27
Back to the strange new world of 2001/02 for this week’s History column, as QPR go into the third tier for the first time since the 1960s and start facing exotic opposition like Wrexham for the first time in a generation. 0

Out of interest, do any old-fashioned (or just older) fans remember the 0-1 defeat in October 1980? Venables had taken over two weeks before. As it was my birthday, my dad got me and a friend top price seats in SA Road, and I procured an autograph from a stony-faced, wordless Tony Currie by the director's box. Terrible showing, barely 9,000 in the ground.

Of course, things picked up dramatically after that, with a proper coach, and we only lost once in the next 21 games, finishing 8th.

Great memories there Clive.

Just jogged my memory of players we had then

Hamid Barr
Digby
Doudouuuuu!

Only us could have a Doudou and shittu lol

Digby seems almost forgotten played a fair few times and never let us down from memory

Poll: Now it’s slightly clearer cut who do you want as manager ?

I think Digby was OK at best, but certainly not one of our better keepers.

Poll: How old is everyone on here?
