He had a buyout clause. Palace met it.
This may have been covered elsewhere!!!

1) Macarthy is not a very good keeper. If he was he would have sat on our bench and Readings for the best part of 2 years. In 2 full games I've seen him play we conceeded 8 goals, some of which he was directly at fault for. £3.5m is good money for a serial bench warmer.

2) Green may be old at 35 but GK's can play at a high level until 38-40. Besides Macarthy is not that young, he'll be 26 later this year. Who was the last keeper We (or anyone) kept for 15 years ?

This post is similar to the crap article in the Metro that I read earlier today who also didn't quote the facts, if the writer had included the following information then he wouldn't have been trying to run the club down

1) McCarthy had a release clause so we couldn't stop him leaving.

2) He wanted to get back into the Premiership

3) we can't afford two top keepers on big wages with FFP to consider

4) Mcarthys wages were very likely reduced as we have been told last years signings had relegation clauses in their contracts, assume he now gets a bigger salary at Palace

5) Bottom line as the release clause existed what option did we have, he wanted to leave, were you thinking make him first choice and put Green on the bench. Crazy we pay Green a small fortune to not play and there's every chance they will both leave when McCarthy decides he just wants more money......

Im not saying if that physical or mental
