Great pod! Agree with Simmo at the end - we're in a good position, everyone breathe. The whole Nourry divide is also annoying, and I'm equally sick of the pointless agenda on both sides of the thing. This is the first time since Warburton, and really since Warnock that I've felt a lot of hope around the club (I'm not including Beale or Redknapp), so it would be nice to enjoy it! A good listen. I agree with the comments on Noury at the end too ā probably best just to enjoy the ride and see where it takes us.
A couple of small things. Iām not sure if it was here or just the wider fanbase, but there seems to have been a lot of backtracking when it comes to Morganās loan move. Iām sure plenty of people were saying not that long ago that he was ābeyond a loanā, yet now heās off to Bradford and most people seem to think itās a great move. Whatās changed?
On Kamara, I remember quite a few people saying it was a decent signing only if he was going to be more of a squad player or cover option. If he was being brought in as a starter, the reaction seemed a lot less positive. Itās obviously early days, but he already looks like one of the best midfielders at the club to me, so maybe we all underrated that signing a bit ā which is no bad thing.
The debate around Noury and the suggestion that some players wanted to stay is interesting as well. Seems be people thinking we need to sell and that keeping everyone sends the wrong message. While others see it as a sign that the squad is together and genuinely believes it can push for the top eight with the option to sell if it doesn't work.
My only concern with the āsell if it doesn't workā argument is that itās not without risk. We probably thought something similar before, but then had Rob Dickieās form fall off a cliff, Willockās fitness problems, and Chair no longer attracting the same level of interest. Suddenly your bargaining position looks a lot weaker.
That said, I canāt see Ronnie dropping off in the same way Dickie did, and youād think Burrell or Kone would still bring in a decent fee. Even so, thereās definitely some risk in leaving it until later. | | | |

JnrJnr went to the Orient v Bradford game, and I asked him how Morgan did. Very meh, lost the ball a bit, one or two decent passes, but not great. In a poor quality game between two poorer teams, he said the difference in quality between how we play was stark. In that circumstance, you'd expect Morgan to stand out, and he did, but for the wrong reasons.
I checked his stats, and he was rated the lowest of the Bradford starters, only 36 touches, zero tackles, 1 interception, 2 fouls. | |

I was actually not a fan of Morgan leaving on loan last Jan, because we had absolutely zero options for forward facing midfielders beyond Madsen, especially playing as we did then with a 2 man midfield behind 2 strikers. As it happened Madsen did go down and he ended up filling in and getting 10 odd games in the Championship. I think the difference is that now we have Kamara, but also a system where others have been able to slot into midfield - Vale and Edwards specifically, with Isak maybe doing enough pre season to add a little more peace of mind (I note he was back on the bench against Charlton).
Given that I think the club have looked to retain only the players they feel are genuinely first 11 worthy (with Morrison, Adamson, Lloyd a few necessary depth pieces), Morgan probably didn't do enough at the end of last season to justify him being part of this squad. A year at a really good League One club where he can get 40+ games into him, will take him close to the 100 pro appearance mark, and reveal a lot about where he sits for next season.
Kamara has looked better than I expected. I don't think he will be the goal and assist maker that we'd love to have from CM, but he's so composed and good with the ball, it means not everything goes through Madsen, and they look a good complimentary duo atm... Also he's 30, and outside our usual profile, so big kudos to the club for this one.
Lastly, I think the 'sell if it doesn't work' part is a little more likely than previous because I don't believe any of our top prospects are at their ceilings yet. Madsen *maybe*, but is still relatively young and missed a chunk of last season. All of this depends on them actually being available for the majority of the season, but with almost everyone early-mid 20s, I think the interest will be there - especially if as we all hope, this group can get top 8/10 and improve from last year. |  |

On Morgan, just to be clear, I like him, think he's decent, I wanted him to go out on loan, I think it's no bad thing. My comment was more that a lot of people thought a loan wasn't a viable option for him not long ago but all seems to have changed. I've always thought it's the best option for him, as has been said, will help us find out whether he's up to it in a few months time or not. | | | |
