| Sad, sad situation - Preview on 17:34 - Apr 14 with 2875 views | Harbour | Thanks Clive. How things have changed for Mark and the team I remember going to my first fans forum in December when Warbs got an ovation when he came into the room. The future looked bright then and the right up to the Reading game top 6 looked a shoe in. Personally hope he stays as you say what is the better alternative who understands the clubs finances football strategy? The only other suitable candidate appears to be John Eustace but that also is a risk as he has limited experience in the top job. Tough times be interesting to see how the season pans out. Cannot see anything other than defeat tommorow hope I am wrong as need to stop the alarming slide down the table. | | | |
| Sad, sad situation - Preview on 19:48 - Apr 14 with 2570 views | stainrods_elbow | It goes on being rather bizarre to me that those who are leaning with some kind of inexorable sense of tragedy toward Warburton being shown the door seem to think Eustace (and Banfield) are not part of the problem for this year's seismic decline - this, seemingly, on the strength of our assistant manager's record with sixth-tier Kidderminster Harriers and being courted by Swansea (and now, rather surprisingly, ROI). Why would letting Mark go not mean that Eustace should get his cards too, or, if not, that he might, out of some sense of professional decency, choose to go with him? I wish we weren't being forced to consider another 'reset' of this kind, but I for one would not be offering Eustace the manager's seat even if he was an OK caretaker a while back. It's also a measure of how profoundly the malaise and collapse of confidence in the team has seepen into the fanbase, and the steward of LFW, that Clive titles his preview with a funereal allusion to an Elton John ballad. (Sorry does indeed seem to be the hardest word for our club, perhaps because it implies you'll try to do better next time.) It's not that we've 'let ourselves down', as Warburton tries unconvincingly to spin it - you might let yourself down for one or two games, perhaps, but not for going on three f*cking months - so much as, if the sporting intelligence is to be believed, team and staff have been found out, and found lacking. I've pointed out elsewhere, with reasons, the limitations of the 'injuries' plea of mitigation, including the crocking of Willock. We've gone from feast to famine to the extent we might well end up chomping on scraps closer to the foot of the Champ table than the top, and that is both unacceptable and unbearable. We've not been unlucky - we've hoisted the (lily) white flag! Even now, and as improbable as it is, were we to win our last five games, we'd make the playoffs, but many are questioning whether we'll manage one more goal. Sadly, I think the team gave up weeks ago, and so did most of the fans, and even when we lifted our game vs Preston from the comatose, it wasn't enough and we found a way to lose by playing quite well, or at least not too badly. I just don't think this happens at other clubs, and the statistics say it doesn't. But football is absurd, irrational, unpredictable, not just depressing, disappointing and demolishing. Udderspiel 1 Rs 3 (Austin's fat arse, Barbet 35 yard free kick, Eustace's flying fist) [Post edited 15 Apr 2022 3:30]

Ferdinand gave that interview where he talked about how Warburton had turned the opportunity to sign a striker, which seemed an odd thing to say at the time but now suggests they were already lining up their ducks. I doubt we'll ever find out went on in the window and who did what but wouldn't be surprised if that was a key factor in the decision to let him go.

| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

Oh I don't know, it doesn't seem that long ago that I struggled to believe we could scrape a point away at Grimsby or avoid another home defeat to bloody Northampton. The recent run is disheartening especially after the summer signings I really believed this would be our year. If Warbs goes it will lead to a big shake up and a few more years before we have another crack at the top six. If he stays it will still need a shake up but with 3/4 class signings, this time next year Rodney...

Yeah, it seems to me that there's no point worrying about where our one time rivals are. We're in a good place really, despite recent results. The club has made progress and is well run it seems. These foundations take time to pay off. It took Brentford a good few years of being better run than we have been in forever to get their promotion to the bloody Promised Land.
