While we are roughly where I expected us to be before the season began (a couple of places better off tbh), I am surprised by the nature of our results. Given our supposedly riches in attack and on the wing - and the way Kane started the season - I thought we would regularly be on the right or wrong side of ‘five goal thrillers’. Once we had ripped up the ‘game plan’ and decided to play 2 up front, I thought we would go all Keeganesque and try to out-score the opposition. But it hasn’t played out that way at all. In each of the six games since the previous International break we have scored one goal or less. Only for the good form of Burrell we wouldn’t have scored at all. Unsurprisingly this has only garnered us four points as we ‘plummet’ from 6 to 16th, but it is the manner of these defeats/draw that has surprised me. Apart from Ipswich, the games we have lost have been by a single goal and we have even managed 2 clean sheets along the way. This gives me a sliver of hope that if we can ‘click’ up front, we should be okay. [Post edited 8 Nov 23:44]
