I agree, the first chance he should have scored, and he'll know it.
Overall point on Alfie, he needs to score and soon, for his confidence. But I think there is a player in there. His natural strength and pace and disruptiveness, in one of the most physical leagues in the world, is a rare asset, and I suspect it's why JS is investing some patience in him.
An overall point on our imperfect knowledge as fans. The club knows our players so much better than we do, observing what they can do in training, etc, and sometimes they will know that players are much better than what they are showing in matches. It makes the club's perseverance with them baffling to fans, but it's why the club stuck with Adamson and Madsen, two players almost universally written off by the fanbase before they came good. Which is all to say, have some humility when piping up about players. We don't know enough. |

Thanks, Clive, a wonderful tribute to his career. Made me emotional as the Taarabt seasons were the final ones I shared with my dad before he passed. That's what football can give you. Amazing. [Post edited 9 Sep 14:23]

I agree. They are clearly trying to manage something with him, but it's just not working and affecting his confidence. He needs a break.
Also, from the criticism as well. I don't like pile-on criticism in any form. It's school playground stuff. I don't like it in the ground at Kone. Nor in the match reports against Lloyd, which is becoming a theme they relish in, no matter who the author.

Think Alfie Lloyd is being hard done by here. He did more in 20 mins than Kone did in 70. Lloyd's pace and strength single-handedly won us the corner from which we scored, bouncing one of their Big Dog CBs off him and nearly the other. Yet you dedicate a critical flourish to him. Unfair, I reckon. |
