At National League level last season he played 720 minutes and scored 4 goals. 0.5 goals per 90 mins is pretty respectable for an inexperienced 18 y.o. kid, I’d say.

I’m also a fairly regular visitor to Hayes Lane as they’re pretty local. Nice place to watch football and always easy to park - and not your typical location for a football stadium, being largely surrounded by fields. Watched them in both of their recent FA Trophy finals and think of them as my 2nd team now.

His best game for the club by a distance. Genuine contender for MOM - and played a big part in our winner.

I feel like we're in a much stronger position now at the end of the window than we were at the start.

The main issue for us going in (other than defensive cover which has been addressed by signing Sanderson) was the lack of cover in the squad if either or both of Chair and Willock are unavaliable.

The fact that we subsequently found more than one way to cover effectively in Chair's absence - e.g. having Gray/Austin as a 2nd striker OR playing Luke Amos in a more advanced role - means that signing an extra attacking player is absolutely a luxury rather than a necessity. Just getting Illy back from AFCON feels like a new signing in itself.

This is a bit meta, but I highly recommend Jon Ronson’s excellent podcast series on the Culture Wars: ‘Things Fell Apart’.

Some fascinating historical insights that show the Culture War really is nothing new, but has been raging for decades.

Just back and Field was my MOM. Outstanding - so glad there’s a stat to reinforce what I saw with my own eyes.

And Willock …. wouldn’t swap him for any player in the league.

And our back 3 … immense again.

And our keeper … fair play to the recruitment team to get such a high quality replacement for Seny.

Possibly slightly fortuitous to win today against a very good team but we have a team that now makes their own luck.

Great work as always, Robith.

Another little stat to throw into the mix:

In 2021 we have scored a total of 82 points from 43 games.

So we could quite conceivably, in the calendar year, surpass the points total (88) from our 2010/11 championship winning season

Chair

I think this was also noticeable last season, on the few occasions Chair didn’t play we looked a less potent attacking force. He really is integral to the way we play and today I felt there wasn’t the same intensity and purpose that we saw in pre-season when Ilias was playing.

Thousands of us still stuck outside. Digital tickets causing major snags at turnstiles. Thought they’d have delayed kick-off but no:(

Who will top score for us?

I agree. 5-3-2 is a given this season and if the 3-2 is Johansen, Willock, Chair / Austin, Dykes I think Stef could get a bit swamped in midfield. We did actually play this line-up in our last 2 games of last season (Stoke and Luton) and played some lovely attacking football at times but also conceded a number of chances in both games where I think better teams would have punished us.

For me Willock and Chair are now absolute musts in our first choice 11 when fit, which leaves space for only one of Dykes and Austin. I’m sure there will be games where they will play together, depending on the opposition and their capacity to hurt us, but against the better sides in the league I think it’ll be one or the other, and I think based on form since March, Dykes edges it at the moment.

Expectations
at 21:17 6 Mar 2021

That’s just football, really. We were pretty fortunate to get the 3 points against Bournemouth (and, arguably Brentford as well) so I thought we were probably due a game where we didn’t get the points that the balance of play probably warranted - and that was the Birmingham game. Derby were also in a really good run of form when we played them, and considering how packed the fixture schedule has been there were always going to be a few sub-par performances mixed in,especially considering we don’t have the depth of squad that many other 2nd tier teams have.

If you take the last 12 games, even the most optimistic of us wouldn’t have predicted we’d get 23 points, especially considering we’ve played 6 of the top 8 in that run of games - but that’s promotion form.

Johansen

That was exactly how I saw it. One of the best individual performances of the season from Johansen today IMO. Or, to look at it another way, today he was the best player in arguably our most complete performance of the season.

In the taking of the knee did you notice that his knee wasn’t fully grounded? Also seemed to be muttering something into his hand. Probably a signal to his Proud Boys pals back home.

Some genuine answers:

1) Considering how many of the 1.86m will be of school age or retired, how many black crew members did Steve McQueen genuinely expect to find?

The point was that the number of black ("BAME" in the article I read) crew members wasn't anywhere near representative of the whole population (14%). Who knows what McQueen expected, but certainly what he found was a tiny fraction of that overall proportion. That's surely not too difficult to grasp.

2) If 'identifying themselves' in novels and works of fiction doesn't seem to have been a widespread issue for older generations of black people living in the UK, why the pressing need to add token characters to works of literature?

Wasn't 'an issue' for older generations of black people? On what basis do you make that sweeping generalisation? Have you talked to all of them? In any case, it stands to reason that as the UK has become more diverse there would be a growing hope and expectation that such diversity ought to be better represented in literature and popular culture generally.

3) How do you suggest the club increase the black support? Should we have a 'Bring a black mate' day at Loftus Road every now and then? Should we have cheaper tickets for Black people?

Big leap from someone making a factual observation that attendance at Loftus Road does not reflect the diversity of the London population (or the diversity on the pitch) to arguing for something as absurd as race-based price discrimination. The broader point is not that a certain racial group are more inclined to support top 5 sides - which I find highly dubious by the way - but that many from minority groups may still not feel entirely safe and comfortable going to football matches, often the result of perceptions formed from people's day-to-day lived experiences. No-one is suggesting there are any easy, glib solutions to this, but it is indicative of a wider issue that this "Britain is not a racist country" trope seeks to sweep under the carpet.

And then seemingly pushback from .... somewhere. Hmmm.

I could be putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5, but the most plausible explanation can sometimes also be the correct one.
