Premier League financial settlement for the EFL
at 18:38 29 Jul 2026

So €1.5b over 10 years, with €100m this year. 80% to the Championship - that's just over €4m per club; about 2 months worth of losses covered.

The remaining €1.4 billion is on a sliding scale upwards, presumably mostly weighted in the back end of the decade, so we're maybe looking at something between €4 - 5m a year for the first five years, rising to ~€8.5m in 2035.

One rights deal that doesn't meet expectations for the EPL and they'll pull the plug quicker than you can say "ITV Digital"

We had Zlatan Ibrahimovic on trial in 1999 and turned him down due to the staff not having his ego.

In retrospect, I'm sure sticking with Chris Kiwomya was the right idea

Former Brazillian player Argelico Fuchs is surely the winner - especially prior to "correcting" his name in 2020 (which I cannot post here). Eurosport definitely had fun with it back in the day...

The first and third keeper kits would work pretty well as away kits down the line.

That's only particularly relevant if we're aiming for the home kit to be "fashion ware" - that quite simply just doesn't happen for smaller teams - we're not Juventus or whichever bullshit nothing club have signed Messi/Ronaldo this year, so it's broadly irrelevant.

Great, 4 million views on a video where the kit is shown briefly, I don't believe this translates to sales because there's a giant 'kin MSPaint logo in the middle of it, plus it's not a "fashionable" kit, period.

It's marketing by and for people who don't understand what QPR are.

Total merchandise sales from the last two years of accounts have been £2.0m and £1.9m respectively - as far as the club are concerned, from a purely financial viewpoint they'd stick quite literally anything on the kit as a sponsor if they got paid slightly over 7 figures for it as it would supercede the entire year's worth of commercial sales.

It's not like there's a massive hidden buyer base just waiting for the platonic ideal of a QPR kit to be released so they can throw money at the club.

Frankly, unless we're somehow going to unearth a production line of talent from non-league who are all somehow good enough for the Championship who are also happy to be paid about 75% less than their average counterparts in the league, there's not any real alternative.

Hopefully another company to fall into the QPR sponsor graveyard - can't be that many still trading after having sponsored us over the last 30 years. JD Sports and Air Asia are about it, right?

At what point does "but I can fix him!" stop being an acceptable excuse for signing players who are clearly never going to cut it?

Relevant table with data for that point:

Cifuentes was the 20th best manager (out of 36!) in the Championship last season based on points-per-game, Stephan 22nd.

My brother genuinely rates Lee Harper as one of our best ever keepers (I assume based solely on how busy he was kept), so I'd lean towards the latter.

I also don't want to have to reassess my own opinion of Chris Day for that matter.

The silver/black away kit for two years running was a nice kit - the main problem is that the major association is with Steve Morrow and relegation to the third tier.

If the standard idea now is to ensure three kits (as is de rigeur since the mid 00's onwards) and you want to keep hoops, then effectively that means Dennis is a no-go as two kits which are diametric opposites on the colour wheel leaves no _sensible_ opportunities for a third kit.

With that level of base cunning and desire for petty cash in mind, we could reasonably see something like Blue/White hoops (natch), Black/Yellow (oh golly, does it clash with Watford, Norwich and arguably Millwall, Portsmouth and Cardiff? Oops!) and a third of something like a Darlington-esque criminal jumpsuit or the early 00's return as none of the social media kids have any memories of the late 90's decay.

Cerny wasn't exactly great either* - not an obvious improvement on Camp and definitely worse than Kenny

Hull getting promoted is undoubtedly the funniest outcome from all of this - I'll be genuinely surprised if they manage to hit 20 points next season though.

Next year, you'd imagine Burnley will be around the top 4 all season, whichever of West Ham/Spurs will be there, Middlesbrough probably will, Wolves possibly have the financial room to make signings and then there's a big gap. Sheff Utd are now parachute paymentless so probably need to sell, Southampton are in big trouble so there's a cause for optimism. Millwall and Hull have proven you don't need to actually be that good to be in with a shout - factor in that down to 8th can go up next year and it's more open than before.

Having said that, we'll still finish in a neat line with Bristol City, Stoke, Preston and Swansea because we're not allowed to have dreams anymore.

For the xG afficonados, we had an xG conceded of 57.4 (11th) and a total conceded of 73 (23rd).

The problem is unequivocally in between the sticks.

There are a few problems with Angus Gunn as a goalkeeper, but I'd say he's pretty consistent - I know Southampton fans would second that viewpoint.

Ilan Meslier would be a similar level of pick-up; out of contract, big enough "name" but also only 26 with over 200 appearances to his name. Completely bombed out this season, so definitely a "we can fix him" option for someone desperate. It's the sort of "star" -struck signing we love making, the kind that never ends well.

The most sensible option would be to see what Sunderland want for Anthony Paterson as the most Championship of Championship goalkeepers; second option, take one of Brighton's warehoused goalkeepers for a spin, they've got something like 8/9 across their youth teams and its worked wonderfully for Coventry this season.
