Macclesfield Town Wound-Up

500,000 pounds of debt couldn't be paid. Owner is entirely to blame, but it's the fans who suffer.

Which club will be next?

Wigan fall under administration

Terrible news. Yet another club is in danger of folding. And if they survive as expected, there's the 12-point deduction. If it's enforced this season then Wigan will be 24th and 4 points from safety.

Loan players coming back?
at 17:39 17 Jun 2020

Have read a few things saying our loan players will return/have returned, but nothing has been confirmed I believe. But if it is true, it would help having those players back for the 5-sub matches.

Benda
Asoro
Peterson
McKay
John
Cooper
Baker-Richardson
Lewis
Am I forgetting anyone?

I'd imagine getting Asoro and Peterson back would depend on whether their clubs decide to buy them or not (they have options to buy). Not sure about McKay either because Fleetwood have playoffs. Baker-Richardson's contract was ending anyway, and I haven't heard about a short-term extension. And what would the implications be for us regarding Kalulu?

Has anyone heard any conclusive info?

Replacement for our weekly football fix?
at 08:28 15 Mar 2020

We're not going to have football for a minimum of 3 weeks, but it's almost certain that the postponements will be extended. That could be 6 months without football, who knows.

It'd be great if the club put together a list of some of Swansea's best games, and uploaded them for us once a week on Saturdays at 3pm, if they had footage. Each week could be a different game, and they could be from a range of decades.

Lets say football is postponed for 5 months. 20 weeks of 20 memorable Swans games being uploaded for a limited time at the regular time slot would be a great way to still enjoy a Saturday afternoon with football. It would bring back nostalgia for older fans, and give younger fans like me a chance to see some older matches.

Good idea or no?

Horrible to see. And his teammates were trying to stop him walking off, it seems.

Yorkshire clubs falling apart
at 09:42 10 Feb 2020

Firstly Leeds. How have they bottled it yet again??? After matchday 21, Leeds had an 11pt lead over 3rd place and had a record of 14 wins 4 draws 3 losses. They were cruising, and the chasing pack was so inconsistent. Now their lead is 0pts, and they're 1 loss away from dropping to 5th. And it's only Feb. They'll only get more and more tired as the season goes on.

Then Sheffield Wednesday:
18pts dropped from winning positions
9 goals conceded after the 80th minute
6 goals conceded in stoppage time
They've been in the playoffs for a decent amount of time this season, but now they're in 11th and are 6pts away from 6th. And to make matters worse, if they get deducted the 21pts this season, that would put them in 24th place with 23pts; 10 points from safety.

A Nice Change Involving Signing of Players
at 15:50 10 Jan 2020

We're 10 days into the January window and we've already signed 2 players (albeit on loan. We can't spend money). Gone are the days of signing all our players on deadline day or with just a few days to go. Or even worse, not even signing anyone (Potter in January 2019).

It's also a huge bonus to be signing youth players from Liverpool and Chelsea respectively. That comes down to Cooper being here. Also the loan signatures in the summer. I seriously doubt many, if any, would've been signed had Potter still been here.

Of our 7 players currently out on loan, how many do you think we should take back at the end of the season? Or should any come back early?

Benda
Asoro
Baker-Richardson
Harries
Zabret
Lewis
Montero

And should we send any of our current players out on 6-month loans?

Cullen?
Evans?
Cooper?
de Boer?
Someone else?

Oh Dear...
at 11:41 30 Dec 2019

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/swansea-city-liverpoo

Steve Cooper has reiterated that Swansea City will not be making any signings in the January transfer window, despite reports claiming that they were on the brink of securing a loan deal for Liverpool's Rhian Brewster.

But speaking after the stalemate with Gerhard Struber's men, Cooper once again stated that his side were not going to bring any players in next month.

"No update, apart from, it's common knowledge that there's no money," he said on Brewster. "Until such time that changes, in terms of personnel, I won't think about it but we won't be bringing anyone in."

No signings. None permanent, or on loan. None.

Bury v2.0 - Macclesfield deducted 10 points
at 01:55 21 Dec 2019

The EFL made the decision to deduct 6 points (with 4 suspended) due to Macclesfield not paying players & staff, and for them calling off the Crewe match. It was questionable, since Bolton were handed a 0 point deduction (5 suspended) for calling off the Brentford and Doncaster matches in separate seasons.

A matter of hours later, the EFL called off the Plymouth game due to safety concerns for fans. This decision was made 15 hours before kickoff, meaning some Plymouth fans had already made the long trip up. Macc asked to have the game played behind closed doors, but the EFL refused their request. They then proceeded to punish Macc again (it will be the 4 suspended points) for failing to play the fixture (even though it was the EFL who called it off).

The ironic thing about this is that the EFL said they declined the request to play the match, because they believe football matches need to have fans watching them. But the Leasing.com Trophy has crowds of roughly 400 (I'm guessing, because they often don't release the attendance figures).

The EFL is not fit for purpose.

Performance vs Results
at 03:25 30 Nov 2019

Our performance against Fulham was much improved. We played well without being clinical - something that happened regularly under Potter. That's the Potter who people rate so highly on here. We were up against a PL squad featuring a 27M striker on PL wages.

Yet the Cooper Out clan are still out in force. They were complaining when we were winning games with late goals because our average performances were masked by some clinical finishing. Now after Fulham they're complaining that we weren't clinical enough and that the performance means little if we don't score goals.

We will not be relegated this season. We are in the top 10. We are above where most of us predicted we would finish at the season's end. We have an inexperienced manager with some players which aren't playing to their potential. If we can turn it around, and there is plenty of time, a place in the playoffs is there for the taking in this inconsistent league.

2020/21 outlook
at 15:54 27 Nov 2019

Are we really going to be in a financial mess with lack of funds in the future?

For next season, we will get a parachute payment of 15M, a fee of maybe 3M for Ayew (he will be gone if we don't go up this season), and maybe 500k when Nordfeldt leaves this January. I'm guessing Borja and Mike will leave for nothing. I'm also assuming Rodon isn't poached by a PL club. That's a gain of 18.5M.

If Ayew, Borja, & Mike leave, that's a ton of wages which wont have to be paid. There's no guarantee Carrol or Naughton will come back either.

We won't have to bring in a stack of players hopefully. Benda will be back from his successful loan to Swindon, Cullen will be back from his loan which will hopefully soon be set up, Garrick will be injury-free hopefully, Cabango will be ready for first team football (as it happens, he is right now), and the u23s will have developed even further.

Our debt should be cleared right now. Barely any of the parachute money should need to go towards filling it next season. If we end up having financial issues, we'll know for sure where the money is going...

Hopefully in 2020/21 we have a financially stable club, have been able to spend a little bit of money in the offseason (I know, I know), and have a team similar to this:

...................Mulder/Benda
Roberts . Rodon . Cabango . Bidwell/John
...........[New Midfielder] . Grimes
............Kalulu* . Celina . Peterson
...............[New Striker]/Cullen
* we have an option to buy him

Am I being too optimistic or naive?

Cooper should be sacked after all
at 10:23 25 Nov 2019

Just not ours. Forest Green manager Mark Cooper, after pulling this stunt:

For those who aren't aware who 'Justin' is, he's talking about the former Leyton Orient manager who tragically passed away not long after leading them to promotion. The current Orient manager reacted, and got a red card, while the FGR scumbag got off scot-free. Cooper's got form for this kind of crap too.

And the club is just as bad it seems. It's a shame. I used to like Forest Green and their fairy tale run into the EFL.

What's going on? Is he carrying a hidden injury? Surely he needs to be getting game time, even as a sub if necessary.

Asoro
at 16:11 28 Oct 2019

Seems his career has hit another roadblock. At his loan club FC Groningen, he had only made one appearance as a sub (9 minutes) until yesterday, where he played the entire 2nd half as a sub.

I was hopeful when we brought him in that he could be developed and be more than a fast athlete. But given that his loan has an option to buy, it seems we don't want him anymore, and probably won't want him back if he can't make their first team.

Chichester City

They're an 8th-tier club, and are into the 2nd round of the FA Cup through a bye. First time they've ever qualified too. One hell of an effort, considering they had to play 4 matches and 2 more replays to quality.

They're also donating a portion of their prize money to Bury, since their league expulsion is the reason they're moving through.
