Swimming pool at Craven Cottage
at 17:00 27 Mar 2024

What I do wonder about is clubs like Fulham setting themselves up like this. Sure, fine now, because you're playing Man Utd, Liverpool etc so you'll draw that crowd. But Fulham have recently and could really easily again end up in our division, or even the one below. And as we saw with the "where is Ji Sung?" crowd we drew to Loftus Road for a season, they drop you in an instant as soon as your league games are against Rotherham.

The end-game for (most) Prem clubs though is never having to play the likes of Rotherham again. They're looking for a closed league with club parity to satisfy the international football tourist who care nothing about club history. They want to see stars more than
teams. A visit to Craven Cottage or Stamford Bridge for a game will be on the same itinerary as taking in a show in the West End.

Who is your Non-League side?

As a kid I went to a couple of Tooting's derbies with Wimbledon back in both clubs' Isthmian League days. My best friend's dad grew up a Dons fan so he'd drive us down there. Proper sellout local matches they were too, brilliant atmosphere.

Sinclair and Symth showed they were ready should they need to be called upon.

Agreed (though I wasn't thrilled about — what I assume — were Armstrong's theatrics in added time. His attacking play however is definitely better since Marti arrived. Not great... but better. As it goes I also thought this was Willock's best overall performance since Warburton's tenure.

The 'feel' of this match suggests 0-0 until the 75th minute, then we make a spawny mistake in our own area and gift Sunderland a goal

Has he played any minutes at all since Cifuentes arrived, I've forgotten?

It's possible he can see the team's now starting to gel and it's worthwhile being part of. I'm sure the rest of squad will be ecstatic.

He'll be gone at season's end, wherever we are, but not before then. A placeholder since day one, he's basically past it physically and probably mentally too, but he's served a purpose. Let's face it, we had no one else who could do the job on a regular basis. Never understood why he was given the armband though.

Dunne...

When I look at the squad yesterday, Saturday, and the few games before that — Stoke excepted — I don't see any passengers, 'sick notes,' or 'want-aways.' Some us had doubts about Dunne, JC-S, and others earlier this season but that's not the case anymore. We're a proper team now. We'll clinch survival. Then, next season, we'll eat this division.

It's been some time since we've had a proper mid-field 'general.' Someone who's not just reactive, or an opportunist, but who can construct chances for teammates, and conduct the ebb and flow of the game to his team's advantage. He could be the guy. Future captain perhaps?

Bollocks to corners too?

That's my only beef from what, otherwise, was an excellent performance that showed the discipline and organisation we're coming to expect from Marti-ball. We've got to do better from dead-ball situations, especially corners.

There doesn't seem much point in keeping Smyth on the pitch if we can't do anything from the corners he wins.

Odd, but it makes such a difference when we're first to the ball most of the time.
