Field's surprise double caps fitting footballing tribute to Bowles – Report
at 11:41 8 Mar 2024

On first watch I thought it was the most poorly executed of dives. But agree, having seen the replay (a few times ;-) ) keeper caught Freys heel with his head. I have no idea whether that constitutes a penalty but it does vindicate Frey (& exclude him from the Olympic diving squad)

No matter, as you say, but another twist in a quite emotional and incredible night!

Oh and yes another exceptional report Clive! thank you

Leicester parking
at 13:22 29 Feb 2024

When my youngest was born and she was in high dependency care I pretty much lived in Leicester for best part of a month. Got to know the landlord at the Bowling Green (you'll have to google it mind) who basically invited me to drop in whenever I wanted to charge phone, have a change of scenery and a chat if needed. It became, and remains, one of my favourite pubs despite being a bit 'chainy'.

If memory serves correctly it's about a 10 minute walk to the ground. Decent enough food, and beer and plenty of space inside. Bloody decent landlord (and still was pretty good when I was last in a year or so ago).

Leicester parking
at 20:37 25 Feb 2024

In the back streets to the right of the ground there are lots of streets which have parking in lock ups, church car parks, school car parks. There is a big pay and display just around the corner next to the rugby ground - all not bad for getting back on the main ring road

League One Away Days

In the spirit that this thread was created, and as I flit between Lincolnshire and mid-Wales week by week, I'll look out for Lincoln, Cambridge, Stevenage, Harrogate, Posh, Shrewsbury and Wrexham and clear the diary.

Wouldn't choose for it to happen but whatever the level there are enough of us who have seen and done it before. It won't be the end of the world, no one will die and we may see some more wins than the last couple of seasons have offered. But then again maybe not but we never bought into this for the frequent, positive adrenalin rush

ITK Big boys it's time to OUT yourselves!!!
at 18:48 27 Jan 2024

I got absolutely hammered on dot.org as I'd been in the club shop the morning before the briatore/ Smurf/ Caliendo (sp?) deal was announced. Paladini came in, pushed in front of me and asked for shirts to be printed up with names on the back whilst telling me the announcement was imminent.

The one and only time I have ever been 'ITK' and really wished I hadn't bothered posting even though I was 100% right 1. because of the response I got (everything became a "my mate was in the club shop post" lol) and 2 they obviously turned out to be a group or arrogant w@nker owners

Sinton

As others have said on here back in the 90s I also gave pelters to Sinton, Spunky and Fenwick (never Les or Parker …. strange the mind of a 20 something!)) I was wrong and it's the mark on the man that his contribution off the pitch now is as telling as it was on it back then. Sorry Andy I misjudged that one all those years ago.

Players you'd forgotten played for us

I always he thought he was pretty decent in the few games played for us; and we tried to sign him permanently. Pretty sure he was sent-off/ injured against us paying for Derby

Players signed on the back that they looked the bollox

Hard to beat Brian Williams but I'll have a go with Kurt Bakholt, Tony Simmons and Bobby Davison all of who arrived with a fanfare in and promptly disappeared into the 'stiffs' pool of obscurity before being shipped out. As Wombat will point out Bakholt did get 9 mins away at Man City though

Going against the grain
at 01:44 11 Nov 2023

Apols if I've posted this before. Was (back in 2002) working for a private wealth manager who had employed one of the 'big 4' accountants to help dig us out of some sh1t. We were their premier client and were invited to attend a sportsmans dinner in Knightsbridge. I was the man on the ground project manager and we were given a place at their top table. I was sat next to Jeremy Guscott who was the 'headline attendee' and as I liked rugby and of Welsh ancestry was given a place next to him. Because 'we would have so much in common' He was a complete knob. Arrogant with no interest in anyone at a human level. As I am Welsh I had no fuc king interest in him either. It wasn't a genial couple of hours.

Gavin Peacock was hosting another table. Once Guscott and I had agreed that each other were both wnakers I spent a few hours with Gavin (joined by Steve Perryman QPR fan at some point).

Whatever we may think of Peacock's current twitter persona he was brilliant company, a dyed in the wool QPR fan and dismissive (although respectful of Newcastle and Charlton) of 'other' clubs he played for.

For that evening alone I'll ignore Peacock's current twitter murmurings and just be grateful that he rescued me from Guscott and was a pretty decent midfielder

Car Insurance
at 15:01 3 Oct 2023

Check out Marmalade. My two eldest are with them. You can add the car to your main insurance but add them as drivers through Marmalade (annual, monthly or pay as you go 'packages' of miles driven. And unless I've misunderstood Mrs Langtoft they start to earn their own no claims bonus through their policies. Marmalade provide a tracker and send an assessment through of how they are driving on each trip

The PAYG option works really well for eldest as she only drives when home from Uni so you aren't saddled with annual premium. May not be relevant for your daughter but might be helpful for someone else

Great question. Please take this in the spirit intended. Sat in a hospice waiting for a rather inevitable outcome with a lovely Rs supporting family member. Listening to the Nick London/ Andy S version

The sheer joy for both of us allowed us to lose ourselves momentarily. Well done my team and Illy and Seny in particular

Thank you ❤️

Rail Seating Survey - Update
at 12:39 13 Oct 2021

I may get pelters for this and I've only just been thinking about it but it may be worth considering rail seating on the end/ two end blocks of the upper and lower loft, ellerslie and paddocks (given large numbers seem to stand in those areas anyway) retaining traditional seating in the middle. Atmosphere increases at either end off each stand and may increase noise from middle seats too and those wishing to sit (and see) can do so as well. And it you like one particular 'end' then you have a choice as you can sit/ stand in all. Right enough ruminating - better do some work!

Funny isn't it agreed with all of those you mentioned (particularly Walton) but my memory of Mark Dennis is a generally a fond one. Thought he was excellent for us not in a Gillard/ Dawes/ Wilson way but decent nevertheless. Opinions eh

How did i not know this story, or have any vague awareness of the circumstances? Pre-Internet days i guess ….... Hugely interesting piece.

Charlton always was a bit of a cock. Interesting he put this mistake at the top of the list, ahead of orchestrating the throwing away of a four goal lead at HQ 7 years earlier

Please allow me to...
at 18:42 4 Apr 2017

Well this thread has got me all nostalgic for when we all followed a not terribly good team. One where we kind of accepted it and revelled in a couple of enjoyable early 00's seasons ……. and the the message board and pre-twitter communities all seemed a little less precious. I'm sure it really wasn't anything like that in reality ….. but dot.org was a good place to be most of the time.

Good to see you here now Hud. I was a relative late comer to dot.org but it was a good place to waste hours of your life and you and yours made newbies welcome. West of Soho still soldiers on I see but maybe just less actively ….. like a lot in life I guess ;-)
