Favourite non-football grounds/stadiums/arenas you have been to
at 10:51 26 Mar 2020

Since we have a thread on non-football teams, why not one on non-football grounds.

The only real grounds in the UK I have been to are the two Headingley grounds - cricket and RL/RU - both very good.

The mention of old Fenway where I saw the Evil Empire lose in '13 is one got me thinking and certainly there are a number of old MLB grounds. Wrigley is my favourite. Of minor league grounds, Durham Athletic Park, the ground at Pittsfield, MA, the old War Memorial Ground in Greensboro, NC and Yale Field, CN.

But watching the cricket on the hill at the SCG - now that was the best. Also in Sydney, the old North Sydney Oval (concrete park) with its iconic fig tree although they did, amongst a slew of sports, play football there. Mind you they also played Rockley (a version of women's cricket) between the 1890s and 1910.

Holding on to BT Sports
at 10:19 18 Mar 2020

In relation to the other thread about cancelling SkySports, I'm holding on to BT Sports. There is football on there each weekend for the next few months, though the quality is no where near that of the Championship. It is, however, some sort of fix.

That is the Australian A-League have chosen to complete their season all behind closed doors and BT show their games live. Of the 11 teams, two will be missing for the next couple of weeks, in self-isolation those being Wellington and Melbourne Victory. This weekend sees the Sydney derby.

How willing are you to part with your cash?
at 09:02 13 Mar 2020

If the season gets cancelled or the games are played behind closed doors..

If that was to happen then I believe you would be in your right to request some compensation for your season ticket. The club may offer free access to the QPR Pass but that is a small amount compared to what we all fork out for tickets.

So, I thought I'd ask: would you be willing to "donate" the remainder of the cost of the season ticket to the club to assist with the cost of running the club during this time?

On a side note, does the club make a profit on selling programmes - advertisements, sales, etc and what would happen there? One would assume that with empty stadiums there would not be a need for programmes. I, like some others, get my home programmes delivered through programmemaster and I wonder what would happen there.

Toilet paper
at 08:33 7 Mar 2020

Mass hysteria back in Australia as fights continue to break out in supermarkets. Now I know that there is a separate thread for the virus thingy but this is just too hilarious not to have one for itself.

https://www.smh.com.au/national/fight-in-sydney-woolworths-as-tensions-flare-ove

For some strange and amusing reason, Australians believe that there is a need to stock up on toilet paper. So, it is becoming as hard to find any in the supermarkets as it is to find hand sanitisers in the pharmacies here. Some supermarkets are rationing it. However, at least we aren't fighting over it.

Mind you, I have heard that laxatives have also been selling like hotcakes as hoarders try to make use of excess toilet paper.

Hugill
at 08:45 23 Feb 2020

Looks to me that he is starting to really enjoy himself up front being the target for long balls, outmuscling defenders and giving them hell. According to the stats he conceded four fouls and didn't get a strike on goal, but he was a significant distraction to the defenders allowing more room for Eze and the others to do their work.

As much as I thought he would need a rest and Oteh should come in for a game or two, Hugill seems to enjoy game after game and it may actually be hard for Oteh to get much time on the pitch for the remainder of the season.

For me, it was hard to pick a standout man of the match. They all played well but I just liked the way Hugill affected the game in his part of the field.

Heading there late next month with the missus. Something about a 60th. Anyone been? Any suggestions to restaurants or places to visit as we're going rather blind. Doubt there would be much football on as this will be the international break weekend.

It's just not cricket

For our friends across the pond..

And it took a former West Indian opener to save some face for them. All out for 35 in 12 overs with Xavier Marshall scoring most of that. Oh, and this was against Nepal.

Lambs to the slaughter - Derby match fred
at 07:07 30 Nov 2019

Who will be the lambs?

Having broken up at least two six-game slides before, time to wander in and place my head on the chopping block. We have shown our ability to get out quick, especially away from home, and score. Hopefully that will repeat itself and .. this time we will score a few more than just one.

I'm going for a heavily optimistic 3-2 win.

Set piece threat
at 09:21 10 Nov 2019

While we are all moaning about the defence it was good to see yet another great set piece goal from a corner with Hall scoring again although the officials gave it as an og. From my angle, and I said this before the ball even got to Hall, he was going to get a free header, such was the blocking and movement of the players to set up the goal.. and of course the delivery from Eze. As with the other goal against Brentford, there was not a defender within a yard of him. Been some time since we have had a goal threat from set plays. Something that has been worked on at training is paying off.

Clint Hill will return to HQ on Monday night to be inducted into the Forever R's. It will be great to see him again and I am sure he will get a fantastic reception.

Substitutes

Was there a reason we didn't have any forwards on the subs bench? We brought on Pugh, Smith and BOS all midfielders, Pugh for Wells who was struggling with cramp and had been barged in the back. Was Mlakar injured or out of favour?

Police
at 18:18 14 Sep 2019

Something going on today. Their presence at this game was considered by many to be over the top. However, I think there may have been more to this than meets the eye. Konk may give us news of what it was like at Fulham. However, I am guessing it was as bad as our game. I noted two full police vans heading towards Charlton mid-morning.

A number of fans were trapped by the police and security trying to get into the Ellerslie stand and missed the first goal. One was stoped from entering Y and came into V to watch the first half.

Also, at Lewisham station police were everywhere. There was also a metal detector for everyone to go through. So, something must have been amiss or expected to happen.

Ellerslie Rd exit

Left right after the whistle and noted a number of likely young lads who appeared to be looking for a fight from someone who was to come out of the ground. Also noted the police were heading in that direction rather fast as I headed away. Any news or something quickly diffused?
