Thought I better get in quickly before anyone accidentally took this. Why? because I commenced the last two match threads where we were on a six game losing streak - Brum and Forest in 2017. Hopefully, this won't be third time unlucky.
We'll be missing Freeman now. How can we win? We will and a good away win at that and do the double over Boro. To the players, those who make the park, this will be a do or die game and for those who make it to the far far reaches of this country, they will get a good game to watch. 2 nil to the good guys! Luongo to score.
I know we are all gutted after the end of last night, but not one word on Smith. He still won a lot of balls in the air and threw himself around and then, out of the blue, he was not coming out in the second half. Was he sick, injured or what? Which brings me to the others - Rangel and Cameron. Why were we told that they would be back in February when there is no sign of them at all and I am wondering if we will see them before mid-March at the earliest? I just hope the injury to Freeman is not that bad. We seem to be the source of our own downfall at present. A combination of playing the same players each game, the need to farm out our youngsters so that they will be ready to come in next season or later and the Cup run that has created a backlog of games has brought about the tiredness and possible injuries that put us in this position. I will say one thing. I am quite impressed that we have a bunch of players who throw everything when on the park and yet survive for so long without injury. Those physios and others in the back rooms working on the players need to be thanked.
While we are awaiting the commencement of our latest bash at "the Cup", Luongo has been selected in the Oz side against Jordan that kicks off at 11am London time. I'll be on the road, but I guess there will be some streams that will show the game.
Some of these oppo's vlogs can be cr*p, but this one is pretty good. Interviews of a few QPR fans at the beginning and a different view of the two goals down the School end. Full credit to the guy to get it out so fast after the game as well.
Surprised no one has mentioned this. Saints new manager organised for all season ticket holders to receive a free beer voucher for their game yesterday against Arsenal. Not only did these fans get a free beer but the Saints won with Charlie Austin netting the winner, coming on for Danny Ings who scored the other two. And, the free beer may continue to flow!
I wonder what would have if they tried that at Loftus Rd?
Mass' reward for scoring the very late equaliser on Saturday was to be rested for the game tonight. So, it will only be the jetlag that should affect him for the game on Saturday.
However... I haven't seen anything about what plans there are for January when he will be missing for most if not all of the month while playing for Australia in the Asian Cup. At least that is in the UAE and so not too far away. Would we hope that Hall is ready to return or bring back Manning or pair Cameron with Scowen and when does McLaren pull the trigger to get ready for January? The first game for Australia is on 6 January and the Final is on 1 February.
There's only a few weeks to go. I have not seen anything on the offie. Who will take over from Ned?
During the season Luongo was captain for a period of time as was Robbo. Robbo is gone, so will Mass become the captain for this season? If not, then Freeman or who. This is someone who should be very vocal and lead by example as well as not be distracted by being captain.
For any of those younger folks amongst us, the 2026 WC is to be decided on Wednesday, prior to this one. One hopes that the decision will be a little cleaner than the current and next. It's a two-horse race with Morocco up against the might of a Canada-US-Mexico alliance. I wonder if this will still be the case after the current spat and trade war! Let's hope for Morocco. They missed out in 1996 to the US, so time is now for revenge.
Had a decent run in the Aussies 4-0 thumping of the Czech Republic. Would not want to be in the Czech training sessions over the next few days. They were poor. Luongo did quite well and rarely had a poor pass especially when compared to Mooy who was errant quite a bit and Rogic who also had some problems in the first half. The big difference between Mooy and Luongo is that Mooy cannot defend for the life of him and is too slow when chasing. Sainsbury was quite solid.
Anyone watch this on BT? Unbelievable and commiserations to Gary Waddock of Shot.
Fleet miss a pen in normal time. Shot score just after the break in extra time but Fleet draw level with only a few mins to go. Then in pens, the Shot keeper saves two pens making it 3-1 but then next two Shot pens are missed and saved sending the pens to sudden death. After both score, the hero of the pens so far then takes the seventh and hits the post missing. Fleet score and now head to Tranmere. What a finish!
Ok, now that everyone has had the fun of congratulating a well deserved win, what was happening with Freeman last night? The whole team played well, except for Freeman. Surely he wasn't missing Luongo. On too many occasions he chose the wrong pass, gave the ball away or instead of moving the ball forward on a breakaway, he swivelled and eventually passed back. There were times he was quite annoying. Has he lost some confidence or didn't have the confidence in those who were in front of him and Bright next to him? I do hope Ollie finds out what is wrong and fixes it as he is a fine player but last night he was at one of his worst.
Under 18s won 5-4 and U16s lost 0-1 at Millwall. U18s led 1-0 but it was 1-1 at the break and 1-2 at 71. Then our CF netted four times in seven minutes. They scored twice late to make it close. The U16s lost a player early in the second half after a send off. They scored after that.
