I wanted to see their first goal again and I still think it was offside. Still in the end it didn’t matter and I got to enjoy the penalty shoot out. |

Was that Bruces brewery? They used to do some really strong ales, wasn’t it Head Banger or Floor Banger? I walked past the Star in South Harrow last week, now shut, which I seem to remember was a firkin pub and thought that how well they would do now with all the hipster / craft breweries. A pub brewing it’s own beer would do well, assuming of course it was IPA etc, although I do miss an old style bitter, but even I’m getting bored with Doom Bar, Abbot Ales etc. Sorry just finished a rather nice Spanish red so rambling a bit. Probably time for bed. |

One of the reasons I couldn’t get too upset with the transfer was that Liverpool played fair, with the sell on clause at least we made some money.
Unlike now, when I assume we’d only get training compensation, Brentford, Fulham and Watford have all lost talent for a pittance since, didn’t Sancho move from Watford. |

Dykes looked exactly what he is, a Championship level forward and I don’t think that he could be expected to do anymore.
If he regularly played in the Champions League and put that level of performance in, then I could accept the criticism. Thinking of you Kane.
With Gilmore, who knows if he would have made a difference, what I don’t understand is how England had two players unavailable due to close contact, but not one of the Scotland squad. |

So is it the case of “taking the club as far as he can”? I obviously don’t know anything about what’s going on at Wolves, but if true it does seem a strange decision. |

I saw this morning that West Brom have released 21 players, including Charlie of course, I don’t know if they are first team squad or not, but when you add in loans returning its a very high churn. I always think that a team has a better chance of a straight return if they hold their nerve and resist change if possible.
With new managers at both West Brom and Sheffield Utd it would appear that both teams could under go significant change in both coaching and squad this summer, which in my opinion reduces their chances of a top 2 finish. |

Me too. A sign of getting old, it seems like yesterday and can remember it clearly as well.

The think that they had a few 15 & 16 year olds playing regularly in the u18’s which goes some way in explaining the results, but how many of the older group stepped up to the u23’s I don’t know. |

I think that this season the fact we know very little about the u18, means this news is underwhelming. There’s normally one or two players we’ve been told to keep an eye on but with the exception of Eze the other names mean nothing to me.

I assume it’s an extra year to see if they have fully recovered from their injuries and push on. I doubt they can as it’s very difficult when you lose that much time in your development. |

I can remember the South Africa Road stand going up, the old wooden stand on Ellerslie Road, where I sat to watch my first ever match, and the later developments. So I’ve seen the changes over the years which possibly limits the physical attachment.
What I would miss would be the atmosphere, especially under the lights and some of the great memories over the last 55 years. |

Although Lofts Road has been redeveloped so much over the years, it will be more the feeling of leaving than the physical demolition, which will cause the pain. |

I see that the retained list has now been issued, I’m sure there will be another thread on this, no real surprises, both Smyth and Oteh being released. good luck to both of them and the other under 23’’s who are leaving. |

This was the problem with us changing managers each season, each new one had their own ideas. It must be difficult for a young player on the fringes of the squad, when there is no long term development plan for them.
Hopefully we now seem to have some stability and this might be why we are starting to see more young players breaking through. |
