Prolific goalscorer Dykes
at 10:59 21 Apr 2024

Absolutely. We got the win, he scored and was part of the team. I have the worst hangover I have had for about 20 years. God knows how much I drunk yesterday.
Come on Blackburn, beat Sheffield Wednesday for us and we are pretty much there

Cricket 2024 County/International Thread
at 16:13 9 Apr 2024

One of the main problems with the championship now is the points system. The ball might be an issue, I was surprised there were so many runs scored this week, but there are too many draw points which promotes negative play. What is the point of glamorgan racking up 620, such a dull game, but as they get maximum batting points and draw points they don't care.I don't see how it develops test players either as flogging a bowling attack that's lost the will is not representative of test cricket.

Three day championship again, no draw points, fits in much better with the bazball way. Then they could have some championship cricket actually in the summer again. Might be a bit more of a spectacle again.

Interesting to hear what you guys were saying about Beckenham. Would be much better for kent, they have become Canterbury cc over the years.

Armstrong New Contract ?

Kolli shows more potential by not playing? He had a couple of little cameos and hasn't been fit since. Armstrong has at least played the games

Armstrong New Contract ?

I'd keep him personally. He may be limited at present and been poor today, but he has had some good moments this year. I'd agree that a loan spell might do him some good. I think there's potential to work with there anyway

I think we are going to lose. We're clearly going to keep it interesting for the rest of the season. I reckon we'll stay up in the end, but it's not going to be easy is it.

Former Rs Players today

I don't think they are bad players. The problem is getting the on the pitch. Didn't Clive say in the preview laird had started 16 games and Roberts 5. All that money and they give the impression of not being arsed to play

The other thread is big, and it's the most important issue. I agree, 49 will probably be enough. No harm in getting 54 though

Who is your Non-League side?
at 13:00 29 Feb 2024

I used to go to welling a bit when I was younger, as I grew up in Erith. Haven't been for years though, and haven't lived there for over 30 years.
Have occasionally gone to Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells, but not often.
I actually think non league football seems ridiculously expensive, was about 12 quid to see Tonbridge last time I went and that wasn't recently. Would rather pay more and see QPR(even this season)

Stan Bowles
at 01:01 25 Feb 2024

My dad was a qpr fan in the 60s. When I was born in the early 70s my mum was not impressed with him going to football all the time and wanted to go too. They managed to get a babysitter for a game, and I think Qpr won massively against Sheffield Wednesday in the league cup possibly and Stan bowles was immediately my mums favourite. My dad loved him too though. Never saw him play myself, but he was why I introduced to Qpr.
My elnow fairly old parents haven't been to Qpr for years, but my mum still messaged me earlier to tell me Stan had passed. What an influence he was

To win a game, you don't have to be attacking all the time. When Arsenal had to win by two goals at Liverpool to win the league years ago, they went with a back five and defended most of the game. If you concede, it's harder to win.
Saying that, I'm more confident we'll stay up, but don't think we'll beat Rotherham. Likely to be one of our poorer efforts

Putting the money aside, he sounds good. Has played 118 premier league games, and 65 championship games. A lot of the loan players we've had have never played many games, or are over the hill the other way. So hopefully he will do well

Aaron Drewe - he did his job

I think he did well. The problem with the formation basically means he has no cover, nearly always a one v one situation

Yes, he was absolutely shocking. Lots of ridiculous bookings, like drewe and clarke salter, but let them basically rugby tackle Armstrong all afternoon. Did not clamp down on Huddersfields cynical time wasting until the end of the match. We weren't great, but they ensured hardly any football was allowed to be played, especially between 60 and 80 minutes. Thank God we got a draw, we weren't great but Huddersfield definitely didn't deserve 3 points

Playing out from the back - Everyone is doing it - WHY ???
at 23:16 23 Jan 2024

If you knock it long, you more often than not lose the ball. But I agree I think a bit of pragmatism wouldn't go amiss. If the opposition are pressing with lots of numbers, definitely knock a few long balls in.
In the Premier league if I was managing, I would definitely go long v man city or Liverpool. They press high, then just foul you in the unlikely event you play through the press. Then often don't get booked when they should. I'd settle for a right bastard of a game, long ball fight for it and disrupt the play. Why take on man city at their own game?

Too much negativity on here
at 17:32 14 Jan 2024

Whilst we don't want goofball, I think they should mix it up a bit. The passing around at the back is always the same and obvious. A number of times we gave it away because it was so telegraphed what's coming next. I'd prefer us to play more further up the field, and shoot more too

Whilst the outlook is undeniably bleak, the frustration is staying up really should be within our compass. We are rubbish, but so many other teams are really nothing special. If we could just do the basics we'd have half a chance
