FA Cup Replays Scrapped
at 15:11 18 Apr 2024

Something I don't understand is why they are continuing with replays for the qualifying rounds.

Personally, I'm all in favour of replays (multiple at that), but many a replay in the early stages of the competition results in the losing clubs making a loss. It used to be both clubs, but the prize money is definitely worth winning!

But they've not had any coverage of the FA Cup for many a year.

There are many things they are guilty of, but the scrapping of FA Cup replays is surely not one of them.

This will always remain as one of my favourite games!

I have compared this season many times with the 2006/07 one. Hopefully we will repeat the victories against Preston & away to Coventry!

I think they would have to announce which clubs are in which category before the season starts.

Possibly, previous away fans attendance might have something to do with it.

Saturday's referee

I prefer Keith to the baby faced assassin Mr. Ward!

Strangely, I thought he was a very good linesman, but I'm yet to see an acceptable performance from him as the referee.

I doubt that he would be the main reason though, if we don't win.

Sorry Antti, I'm probably being thick, but I don't follow your last sentence.

I've certainly not dug deep into our youth set up at any time in the clubs history! My post was trying to give a partial answer to Stainrod's question & relied completely on my memory.

My knowledge of Rangers in the 90's is limited at all levels & nearly non-existent regarding the youth set up. As I've often stated, between 1982 & 2002 I watched very few Rangers matches as family was my priority.

Perhaps you could enlighten us on this period?

I'm sure none of us really know the answer, but it definitely wasn't just Rangers that produced more players from their youth. Palace had "the team of the 80's" & Ipswich the likes of Beattie, Burley, Wark, Brazil etc. None of those were local either, but Talbot, Butcher & Osman were! It might be that you couldn't jump from one club to another as well?

I think it was said by Alec Stock or Dereck Healey, that our selling point was the progression through to the first team. I certainly miss that we no longer produce the likes of Hunt, Hazzell, Sibley, Morgan, Morgan, Leach, Clement, Allen, Allen, Goddard, Waddock, Gallen & many others. All of these came from within a 30 mile radius of Shepherds Bush as well.

Didn't we have a close relationship with the Pathfinders Club in Slough at the time & perhaps with other youth teams?

Three is the cursed number as QPR fall in a hole at Hull - Report
at 16:35 15 Apr 2024

Hold on, I said I preferred him playing to Frey or Armstrong! This is based on that I think he is a little bit better at holding up the ball, not that I think he is any good!

In my view, none of the three come close to being as good as Washington! Or even Oteh!

He was definitely caught out, but it was Willock losing the ball on the halfway line that caused the initial problem.

I'm in the minority & much prefer Dykes to play rather than Frey or Armstrong! However, all three are so far below the standard that is required that it is an irrelevance as to who plays that role!

I don't think that Dykes or Dunne were the problem on Saturday though. The problem was that Hayden & Field were outnumbered in the midfield & Hull passed the ball through the gaps to feet. Three attacking players behind Dykes was a luxury that we couldn't afford.

I suspect that we are only playing the supporting three as our manager realises that we don't have a "centre" forward that will score or create chances for others!

Dave, although most of what you stated is correct, I don't understand why 50 points would be enough for Blackburn & Plymouth, but not for Rangers.

Of course, they have a better goal difference than us, but ours is superior to Birmingham, Huddersfield & Wednesday.*

* My apologies, I was thinking they were on 48 points & not 49!

at 18:59 14 Apr 2024

Thank you Alex.

I watched the game on a stream & sent messages during the first half saying that Hull were playing the best football I've seen against us this season. I also sugested that prior to half time we should bring on Colback or Hodge for one of Andersen, Chair or Willock. I didn't care which one went off, but on reflection, Andersen was the correct decision, even if it should have been earlier.

Paul Smyth is a conundrum! He is by far the most likely of our players to arrive in a threatening positon, but he has probably had more chances this season than any other & seldom looks like scoring! I suspect though that had he made it 2-1 just after half time, Hull would have continued their first half dominance, rather than taking a foot off the pedal.

Four he has missed in the last two games, not forgetting his miss at Ipswich. Mind you, he is far from alone with this problem!

Strangely enough, I didn't feel deflated by our performance or the result. I've seen a lot worse over many years & particulary in the past 18 months!

I'm not sure, but I think he was one of the "experts" that told The S** we should & would receive a points deduction & they believed him!

Why wouldn't they? After all, he was so perfect in his time as head of the FA!

I'm assuming that you meant we would pay off Richards, rather than release him as he will still be under contract.

That can only happen if he is in agreement.
