Unless someone tells me differently we are still losing £1.3M per month funded by our owners. We only have the squad we have thanks to the Eze money (again) but unless we can sell one of our players for decent money (Chair) we are going to have to cut our cloth accordingly.
Likewise - I was standing in The Loft that day and whilst a few round us went back to the pub we stayed for what was one of the games (second halves) of the century.
I'm guessing because of the squad now and all being fit he will have to patient and wait for his opportunity which is a good thing. Also great we don't have to rush him back and that Hamstring can keep having a good rest until it's needed.
When I saw the line up I thought we would be overrun and bullied in midfield especially with 3 of our midget 10's starting. However that was not the case and I was very surprised how poor Blackburn were.
However you can only beat what's in front of you and the boys found a way to win which gave me a lovely midweek winter boost.
If we can get something from Norwich I can start looking up the table again.
Probably thinks the new contract is not good enough and he may be right. I guess a bit like Dunne last season we will reach an agreement. The risk Smyth takes though is he is only a bad injury (ACL or similar) away from not having any income after June.
A completely different game to Saturday and still found a way to win.
However Blackburn did have 2 huge chances that they missed so the game could easily have gone the other way. Fantastic save from Nardi as important as our goal.
I thought Kolli for Burrell should have been a sub on 70 minutes - Burrell looked tired.
Smyth is a little nugget - Very important squad player and needs a new contract.
Field - Mr reliable 3 games filling in at left back 3 clean sheets.
Cook / Dunne - Won all their headers
Chair - I am his biggest critic so if he carries on like this it's a huge slice of humble pie for me
Squad - We could change the whole outfield 10 Saturday with decent replacements which shows the huge improvements in quality
Fans - Absolute class I salute each and every one of you in that away end last night.
Incredible journalism Clive - A very powerful article indeed.
I really hope our owners read these articles.
For me the jury is out on Nourry. I totally agree with your Furlong piece and I will reserve full judgement until the end of the season. We do seem to have the best squad we have had in years (thanks to Eze again) and Rome wasn't built in a day. However I continue to struggle with the "Head of Performance" and "Head of Methodology" roles and the people fulfilling those roles.
I have been one of his critics but he was absolutely outstanding Saturday. His workrate without the ball was incredible. I think having a solid full back in RND gives him a better platform to play.
If he plays like that every week he would be the first name on the team sheet.
+Positives I get out the house away from the wife have pie, mash & liquor with my kids a few pints with my mates with plenty of fresh air and hope......
+Negative The hope dies and the bloody hangover and bad mood takeover on Sunday.
I suppose it depends on weather you are comparing it to the the nil nil draw with Oxford or Jamie Mackie’s last minute winner against Liverpool after trailing 2 v 0.
Isn't it great to see him fulfilling his potential - He could easy of let his contract wind down with us and go on a free with a big signing on fee into his own personal bank account. But no he signed a contract so we got a good fee (twice) for him.
Love him to bits and he is so much better than Rashford in that position.
I remember a game in the early eighties (against Barnsley I think) where snow had cancelled all games but because we had a plastic pitch we could sweep the snow from the pitch and a few fans (including my uncle) helped the ground staff sweep the snow and the game went ahead and was shown on Match of the Day as it was the only game played.
