My season ticket came through the post this morning, that always gets me looking forward to the new season, when I paid for it at ML I was told that it entitled me to a free hot or cold drink from the kiosk in the stand,a very small bonus on my lay out of £420 but hey don't look a gift horse in the mouth, I've just looked at the fine print, that's one free drink singular, once I've had the one then that's it

Doesn't 'drink' imply just one?

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Last season we got a free program with every ST,a free copy every game,I just kinda presumed that the drink would be the same ,what's the point of one single alcohol free drink, the cheeky fookers have stipulated certain months that it can be redeemed

Why? They are giving you things for free, that will be saving you around £4.50 all told. It's not worth getting your black & white knickers in a twist over.

It's not hard really.

Aye that's a fair point,I should have mentioned that they stopped the free program every month in exchange for a solitary cup of tea,its hardly a deal breaker in buying a season ticket

On the subject of tickets for pompey we've sold over 400 as of today according to the club twitter feed of a total allocation of 600. With the home ends already sold out looks like it'll be a superb atmosphere for the first game of season. If we sell our allocation it begs the question when we last played a standard league game to a sell out crowd?

Probably was 91/92, ive just checked the attendance at the 86/87 game which was 5739,nowhere near a sell out.

The 91/92 game attracted just over 8000, again nowhere near a "sell out"

The ground was still configured pretty much the same way* as when we had 13000 v Halifax in 68/69, which is the highest normal league attendance in living memory - and whilst it was "cosy" the ground wasn't full

*The only difference being the new main stand, I think, which wouldn't have made much difference to overall capacity

Edit: just to add, if it's a sell out at Pompey I think it will be the first league game Dale have been involved in for this to happen

Edit#2: thinking back through away fixtures, the nearest to full capacity might be the game against Brighton in the 70s when they had 26000 at their final fixture, for promotion (if memory serves.) In those days, there was no segregation for away fans

May 1972 - we drew 1-1 but they still went up. Crowd was 34,644!

Well researched! It was broadcast live on mainstream radio, and remember the silence when Peter Gowans equalised

The new main stand wasn't there in 91/92. It opened on Boxing Day 1992.

The ground may have been configured the same as in 1969, but this was post-Hillsborough and post-Bradford when capacities were greatly reduced.

I don't think that 8000+ Burnley crowd was far off the capacity at the time.

Fair point, and it's an interesting one regarding capacities, which is different from the current sell-out since it'd involve turning non-ticketed fans away once reached. (Hence why I used inverted commas for "sell-out")

Pre-Hillsborough, certain fixtures might exceed the official ground capacity! Fans were just packed in, and it wasn't just football. I recall being at the Sunday League title-decider against Yorkshire at OT when more than 40000 were packed in, standing-room only fashion. The official capacity was, I think, 28000. Never a hint of trouble or discomfort though.

The figure I gave for the Brighton game was possibly the official capacity of the old Goldstone Ground!
