Thump. Great technique from "most improved player" this season arguably. Jim, Ollie, Callum and Andy Cannon in that conversation too but all have played well in the past (depending on you view of Jim). Bradden gets my vote as of now.

I don’t sit near the main stand but I’m told the individual is giving a foul mouthed tirade most matches aimed at Hill and the players. There’s no need for it and I actually agree with Hill over this. Move him elsewhere or ban him altogether.

Yesterday was brilliant forward wise, shambolic defensively. I agree with the Delaney substitution but...

Then there must be another fan as the one I referred to wasn't using foul language.

I would like Hill to elaborate more on exactly what it is that he deems to be unacceptable. Yesterday, both he and Beech had a go at the fourth official whenever they didn't agree on the referee's decisions, yet if someone in the stand has a go at Hill's decisions, it is regarded as unacceptable. What's so different to what Hill was doing?

I think if anyone is banned just for voicing an opinion, then it will be a massive PR issue for the club at a time when some fans would say that there is already issues between the club and the fans.

Four at the back for first time in a while, presumably because Pompey play only one up top in Pitman.

Our turn around in results co-incided with a switch to 3 at the back - it also allowed Jim Mc to be much more comfortable in the centre of 3. We reverted to 4 at the back and Jim had his worst game in months whilst we also lost the threat from Delaney at corners.
As for the point regarding Pitman - I rest my case!!

Just another predictable case of Hill deflecting the blame on to the fans. If one idiot is shouting just ignore him. If he's got any ambition to further his managerial career then he's going to have to. How would he cope at a bigger club with 10k+ fans that are a lot less forgiving than the ones at Spotland.

Unless this said fan is being personally abusive to specific individuals then talk of banning him is stupid.

Blame for what ? Outplaying a promotion team for the 2nd Saturday in a row. Playing some quite brilliant football in a hugely entertaining game? Portsmouth had previously won 4 in a row before yesterday - one of them the most probable champions (Wigan). No wonder Hill gets pissed off with the negativity.

It was the right decision to switch to a back four yesterday. They only play Pitman centrally up top, and he'd find space whether he was marked by two or three central defenders. The change allowed us to retain numbers in midfield while playing both Calvin and Inman wide against full backs who struggled with them all day.

There was no problem until the subs were made, only lax defending which can occur whatever formation we choose. Even now that first sub mystifies, forgetting the like for like swap for a minute, why didn't we go to five straight away and put Delaney on for Humphrys?

Agree - on the other hand there's an argument for a back 4 as a more attacking option at home and our offensive play was superb + we got our equal highest score.

Portsmouth's sub affected the game more than anything. That big lump number 9 caused all the havoc in those final minutes regardless of any of Hill's 'mistakes'. Maybe if Hill had subbed off Matt Done we might have won - the fact is no one knows.

Yes, behind the away dugout near to the press box. Same guy that had to be escorted out previously for having a go at the directors when Hill made a gesture towards that section of fans earlier in the season.

I don't see what good banning him would do though as you will always get fans like that that think they know better than someone who has actually played the game and managed for years. When you compare it to the likes of Graham Barrow when he needed stewards protecting him from fans at the fans forum, what Hill is encountering is trivial.

Ninco - you have somehow got me mixed up with the person concerned in yesterday's incident!

It was I who was 'escorted' out of the ground by stewards and abused by one of the directors at the end of the Wimbledon home game and 'Conradgate' at the start of last season. Not going to go through it all again now as it is distant history but if anybody does feel the need to remind themselves of what happened here's the link:

Hill's reaction to the fans after our equaliser today is the final straw for me. Dunno if it's still at the point where I'll get slagged off for this but an own goal / straight from the corner / whatever it was does not justify 90 minutes of absolute sludge nor does it make me feel any better about the season ahead. We needed to win today to bring the fans back onside and I've always defended Hill because of what he's done for the club, don't get me wrong we have come a long, long way under his management but for me he can go after his reaction to the fans today.

Turning round and giving it both barrels to the crowd after we've scored because they had a go after sending Logan back into his goal is unacceptable, he had no other thought in his mind after that goal other than getting one over on those paying fans. The first time in my life that I've actually been angrier after we've scored a goal and if a manager can do that then it's not a good show. Looking very grim after that performance.

The fella involved in yesterday's altercation does sit behind the away dugout just in front of the director's box and does indeed have a very strong anti Jim McNulty stance. He had been quite vociferous in his criticism of our tactics (sitting back, inviting pressure and having no outlet) for the last 5 or 10 minutes of the game so when Pompey did finally equalise he immediately let Hill know what he thought of his tactics. The words he shouted were something along the lines of "Crap tactics, crap substitutions - you've cost us 3 points with those tactics" but he repeated this several times. That was the only kind of language used - nothing stronger than that! Obviously this had been getting under Hill's skin for a few minutes and he finally snapped and shouted at him "What a fuc%!ng idiot you really are!"

Now there are several things to take into account (not least why, if you are a fan, you spend so much time berating the players and the manager rather than getting behind them and 'supporting' them) but it's not the first time we've been here and no doubt will not be the last? As regards banning people for these kind of incidents I really don't see how that could be enforced as everyone is entitled to their opinion and the has right to express it. As long as no foul, abusive or discriminatory language is used (which there wasn't yesterday - the only abusive language to be heard was from Keith Hill in his reply) then, no matter how much you may disagree with another persons' point of view they are still entitled to have it!

Don't know what the best solution is - maybe get tannoyman to make announcemments every time someone starts to have a pop at the players or the manager? That way they (nor anybody else) would ever hear a thing that was shouted at them!!!

No, we don't know, but there were better available options on the bench which might have seen us been more on the front foot rather than allowing balls being thrown forward to their no.9.

It's an opinions game, but it was noticeable that our first sub and the subsequent shift in play affected us. Anyone who went to Bury would have realised that comparing the subs made then against those made yesterday adds to the argument that the manager made a mistake. He's made plenty this season, and he's also turned things round really well with some great decisions. Praise and constructive criticism should go hand in hand, as should his ability to acknowledge both.

Had Done not headed it in do you think anyone would have even mentioned the substitution's? Do you not think Portsmouth would have been lumping the ball into out box in the last 10 mins regardless? That's just how football works - we were in front trying to hold on - they were behind trying to get a goal - it happens. They are far better than bury.

I would make 2 comments on that.

1/ Is KH going to change his decisions based on the comments on someone who he thinks is a ****ing idiot?

2/ Is KH being distracted from the game by this "supporter" (undoubtedly, regardless of trying not to be) which may affect his decision making.

Based on that, I wonder what he thinks he's trying to achieve. I support freedom of speech, but it shouldn't entitle a counter-productive outcome. As someone once said, empty vessels make the most noise?

It's noticeable every week on Goal Rush how there is booing and cat-calling at a lot of grounds; take Mansfield yesterday, for example.

That hasn't been the case at Spotland all season, so I'm not really sure why it's being mentioned again.

Punch in the ribs at the end but if we replicate anything close to that in the next 7 games we will survive.

For most of the game yesterday, Dale were fantastic to watch. If only we'd been that good earlier on in the season. Praise to Keith Hill for getting the old mojo back. Whatever disparaging remarks appeared from one individual in Hill's earshot, the vast majority of fans were 100% behind a great team effort. This should not be forgotten.
However, this tactic of trying to sit very deep late on in a game to defend a slender lead does not , in the main, work with this squad. We just about got away with it at Doncaster in the FA cup. Games such as Fleetwood away, Walsall home and yesterday for example are evidence. The players seem to be in fear of leaving their own half. If the ball was down by the Sandy Lane corner flags in the 92nd minute, the opposition have minimal chance of scoring. This is a repeated mistake which has cost us points that has put us where we are in the table. Can we sort it out please?

Quite the case, so why does he bring on unnecessary substitutions and have us put 11 players behind the ball with 15 minutes to go, when so many times this season we've done the same and relinquished a lead.

Overall like I said earlier in the thread, its the best we've played at home in a long time, if not all season, so why go so defensive with a lead when we can't hold onto them.

I think people are just looking for excuses because we conceded in the 92nd min. Portsmouth are a good team and going for the playoffs - they put a big lump up front and kept launching the ball to him - they were desperate to get a goal - we didn't need a goal - like I said earlier - had Done headed it clear no one would have mentioned the subs! It's over now - let's just build on these recent really good performances and get something Tuesday! Let's not forget Portsmouth beat Wigan!

I'd disagree. The subs raised concerns as they weren't really needed. Our current strength is going forward, not defending. We seemed, yet again, to be setting out the team to defend a slim lead - a tactic which has cost us dearly in far too many games, not just yesterday. A mistake that keeps being repeated and needs sorting out, and negates the hard work done in games to secure 3 points. If they were hoofing it up to their forwards, we should have been hoofing it back up to ours, and they should have been ready to receive the ball and surge forward instead of sitting deep in our own half late in a game. Again.

Onwards and upwards.

If you watch the Shrewsbury non-penalty, the only player who seems to be in control of his emotions is "Magus" Wiseman.
Next time we're defending a one-goal lead in the last few minutes, I'd stick him on otherwise we'll be gifting the opposition more chances/goals.
