Cricket tour v SA 12:00 - Dec 18 with 26093 viewsD_Alien

Jimmy Anderson back in action since breaking down in August, and taking a wicket in the first warm-up game

Looking forward to this tour, as the team looks to establish a new sense of purpose in the test arena. Ben Stokes had a great tour last time, and should be feeling in good fettle

Incidentally, batting for the SA XI, Matthew Arnold. I wondered what he'd been up to after writing Dover Beach

Philander is a handful in any conditions, especially at home. There is no shame in an early wicket. What we need is for Sibley and Denly to wear down the new ball and the opening bowlers.

Glad Pope is back and that he kicks on. With Burns out to a freak injury and Archer with an elbow problem it really has been a freak tour with illness and injury.

Another giveaway wicket on what is supposedly a flat pitch.

And other!

Dreading the new ball ( 6 overs away). Once this partnership is broken it could be a quick finish

As claude says "it's time to go"

Root is not captain material

There's only Pope emerging from this shambles with any credit

He'll be batting higher up the order before long, possibly at 3

Joe Root proving me wrong good to see and kudos to Sibley, cue England collapse.

This is not the time for bickering.

Now play has closed I can say bloody well done to bowlers and batsmen alike for pretty much salvaging this game and going on to create what now looks to be a winning position.

Don't understand the clamouring for root to be removed from the captaincy. It's not like the team aren't trying for him and there isn't anyone who could captain this team to better results.

Our Test team batting line up isn't up to it, it's a team of one dayers masquerading as Test match players, and there's no one breaking down the door to oust them out of the team either.

Leader of the little gang of immature cretins.

After the first day and being at least '100 runs behind on a flat pitch' we have done superb. Good bowling performance and great patience by the top order which allowed Root to kick on when he came in. Hopefully Sibley will get a ton and we can bat for two sessions to wear the pitch a bit more.

Another 150 runs should do it. Possibly less, but given the way we’ve played in the winter tests so far, the more the better.

Stokes has basically saved us half a day with that rapid 72.

Another 40 runs and I reckon we will have a winning total with more time to go at South Africa to grab the required 10 wickets.

Yep, halfway through the second session, hopefully about 460 + ahead, although I think Root may leave it until about 20 minutes before tea

Even we can't lose from here !!!

Still hoping for a collapse at some point. The day five track will be horrible to bat on.

They were saying on the radio that unlike in England when it is overcast it's easier to bat. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and 30+ degrees.

What do you think of the Talksport coverage?

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

I've only heard a bit of it but the commentary is a bit more opinionated compared to the BBC which I do not mind. Heard KP the other day and he was really good. He offers more insight than some, a bit like Warne.

I'm not sure if anyone else actually listens to it with it not being on the BBC though!

I know what you mean, but I just think they talk too much.

There are times when a silence will do, but then Gough or Harmison come in with some bombast!
