T' cricket 07:23 - Jan 11 with 16381 views | D_Alien | Anyone else been following the Indian tour of Australia? Three great matches so far, the third test just ended with India 330-5 after being asked to make 407. Looked on at one point before Pant was out for 97, but just 3 wickets taken on the final day All set now for the decider, and Rahane's captaincy has turned it around since the first test debacle under Kohli England due to start in Sri Lanka soon, too

Brilliant and mature by Sibley & Buttler Pleased for Sibley, reports that he's been working his arse off in the nets to get it right against spin, and rewarded with his place now cemented for India In fact, as a warm up for India, these two matches against Sri Lanka could scarcely have gone better. Superbly entertaining, and keeping us in with a sniff at the World Test championship final too Positives for Sibley, Root, Buttler, Broad, Anderson, Bess & Leach Good experience too for Crawley, Lawrence & Curran. Wood bowled well but difficult to see how he'd fit into the side in India with Archer & Stokes returning to accompany Broad & Anderson, who it looks like the selectors may rotate to keep them both fit Buttler will be replaced by Foakes on rotation [edit: after the first test] and Bairstow to miss out too, apparently. It's an interesting way to keep everyone on top of their game with all the other demands of the IPL etc. and especially being in bio-bubbles too [Post edited 25 Jan 2021 20:11]

Just been announced that Ch4 will put the test matches on free to view, apparently the first time an overseas tour will ever have been televised live on terrestrial TV, and the first time since the 2005 ashes at home Ch4 haven't updated their TV schedule yet but a great chance to get at a bigger audience who don't have satellite ( not sure how many that is). Also good news because I don't think TMS are allowed to give live commentary as in SL, only the social chat show https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/55902859

A tall order! We'll have to win in India either 4-0, 3-0 or 3-1 India remain favourites to join New Zealand, but other permutations see Australia sneaking into the final despite India's brilliant display there https://www.icc-cricket.com/news/2008433 [Post edited 3 Feb 2021 20:43]

Spinner on for India after only 7 overs. They only have 2 seamers and 3 spinners. Broad out & Anderson, Archer and Stokes our pace attack. Need a big day today

Stupid shot by Burns. England in complete control at 63-0 and he plays a reverse sweep. 1st session of 5 days when your looking for a big score & plays a high risk 1 day shot Edit: And another. 10 minutes before lunch we are 63-0 & finish 67-2. Terrible 10 minutes Middle order to bale us out again hopefully. Sibley looks solid too [Post edited 5 Feb 2021 6:05]

That last ten minutes before lunch is the difference between England being a good side and potentially a great one Seems that Burns hasn't cottoned on to the new discipline, that exposes rookie Lawrence and gifts India the session

Great day for England but a shame for Sibley with just 3 balls remaining. In the driving seat and assuming not a great change to the pitch, should look to bat sensibly for at least 2 more sessions. Hopefully that will give us a 400+ score Root just looks unstoppable other than cramp near the end. He and Sibley were a perfect foil with Root scoring at a good lick & Sibley tiring out the bowlers. Other than 1 shot by Burns that's exactly how you should play day 1 of a 5 day test

Yep. At lunch, i was annoyed but the double ton partnership has put us firmly in the driving seat and with Stokes & Buttler to come (batting sensibly) we should stay there Having said that, we made 477 at Chennai last time and still lost! The key partnership in English cricket is between Root & manager Chris Silverwood, whose re-introduction of discipline to go with the natural ability of our batsmen to accelerate and play creative shots when needed is forging a very promising combination that bodes well Wish we had a top class spinner in our ranks. The missing link...

We scored over 400 3 times the last tour there and lost them all !!! May need to revise my estimate for tomorrow to 500+ Very grateful to Ch4 too for free coverage. Not quite to TMS level ( haven't seen Sky for years so can't compare) but I thought the commentary was decent [Post edited 5 Feb 2021 12:05]

73-4 and a brilliant catch from Root. He can't do anything wrong at the moment. If we can get Pujara out there's not much left

Apart from dangerman Pant... but we're firmly in the driving seat and need to take advantage Special mention for Kyle Mayers of West Indies. Smashes 210 on debut; 395-7 the highest successful run chase in Asia

Superb start to the morning from Anderson. 2 clean bowled. 6 wickets required in 2 and a bit sessions. Kholi still there but hopefully the pitch will wear as the day goes on. Really need to win this game otherwise it will feel like a win for India

All over Magnificent from England and Joe Root is now the captain we all hoped he would be, but took a while to settle into the role. Got loads of armchair criticism yesterday for delaying the declaration but taking the win out of the equation for India had the desired effect Changes to come for the next test but what a start!
