He comes across really well and there is no pseudo footballing terminology. I suspect he will come across really well at the fans' forum.
My thoughts exactly. For all the talk about formations, playing through the thirds and three central defenders, possession stats etc, when it came to the business end of the season it was the good old fashioned putting the ball into the mixer and getting on the end of it that proved decisive. Our two goals at Wembley being perfect examples. You don't have to string twenty passes together to score a goal and you don't have to play it through the thirds at a snails pace. I'm looking forward to seeing a lot higher tempo and pace in our performances.

First thoughts - how will the current squad adapt to wingers? We only have 1 in the squad? means TAR has to be a defensive FB?; or Bilongo
Likely to be a 424 or 4231 formation? if it's 4 at the back which of the 3 CB's loses out? if it's a holding MF2 - Gilmour & Petit? If it's 3 behind Mani - 2 wingers + Rodney OR Jenkins OR East OR Francis?

Plenty of options there which is perfect, everybody fighting for a place in the starting eleven. It sounds as though he is looking to bring in a goalkeeping unit, two goalkeepers and probably two other signings. According to SS fans they played 4-2-3-1 most of the time.

I'm hoping we will bring in another forward also. It sounds like he has clarity in his thinking anyway, i trust him to get it right although it might be year two before we really start motoring.

I would say we need more than two outfield players. If Beckwith is playing left back we only have two centre backs, unless Moss is seen as a centre back. I suppose he could provide cover in both positions, which is the benefit of players who can play mulitple positions. Who is the back up to Mani, unless it is Rodney?

I forgot about Hannant, another option who Watson will also consider. I think we need another forward to compliment Mani D. Somebody who is capable of starting and finishing a game.

Rodney's not a winger (in the Hayes mould) nor cover for Mani & his most effective position is central.
I'd forgotten Hannant too (sorry Luke)- not sure he's a defensive LB nor a winger.
Moss RB & Bilongo LB sort of work but needs cover. I'd assume the 'spare' of Maguire. EEL & Beckwith is the bench cover at CB?
Still leaves a lot of unused midfielders amd not sure what the Plan B could be?
Unless Maguire is quick, there is a lack of pace in that backline unless Beckwith played centrally and Bilongo played left back. We have not seen much of him but he is big, strong and quick. I would like a more attacking threat than Moss, but I am not sure Adebayo-Rowling is good enough defensively in a back four. If you could merge them together problem solved.

I’m pretty sure Beckwith was mostly a left back before he came to Dale. Hannah has played under him before so must have a role, I can see him further forward as a winger. In a physical league like this that’s going to be fast paced, I don’t think having a lot of options in central midfield is a bad thing. We will need them all over the course of the season and don’t want to be relying on a couple of individuals.

You can have 5 loan signings in a match day squad. Premier League have to name their squads at the end of the transfer window, but can have an unlimited amout of players under 22.

In theory he can bring 5 outfield players, personally I would also bring some players under 21(i.e Nevett) to create a squad, that can cope with injuries after the transfer window closes until the January transfer window.
He seem to indicate that he plan to bring in only a few more players. I think we a RB, a defender like Connolly who can play across the back four, a winger, a midfielder and a striker. He said on Tuesday, he would two teams, one for each half, so I wonder if he as some players on trial in at the club.
If he is changing the formation, I would agree that Rodney struggles on the wing, but could he operate in a deeper role, i.e keeper Moss Maquire Ebanks Beckworth TAR Pettit/East Gilmour Hayes Rodney Mani D

Last time we played beckwith at left back was v Southend in play odffs and he was poor so I don’t know about left back, we will see
Beckwith is a super left sided player in a back three. He is not blessed with pace and him in the fullback role would unsettle me a little. Always have believed that playing people in their best position is key to getting the best out of them. We never got to see much of Bilongo last season. If he impresses and nails down the fullback role, it will create an interesting competition for the CH roles. Was surprised that Watson thinks we could be nearing the end.of our recruitment. At the end of the season I said we needed to sign 5 outfield players that are a lock in starters. At best we have signed two in Hayes and Maguire. We need another forward. Mani and Dev’s EFL goal scoring records don’t stand up to the mantle of main goal scorer. TBH I’m a little unnerved by the interview, which is not like me. Still I will have to get used to trusting Watson.

I've watched a few YouTube highlights of South Shields from last season. Looked to me to play a 433/4141 formation. Tight midfield 3 in defence then then 2 attacking midfielders getting forward. Wingers running the channels a lot rather than out and out wing play. We shall see!

It's five weeks until the first league game, which still gives him plenty of time to assess where we are and what he wants. I know we have the cup game at Tranmere (and possibly Bradford) to come, and while they are important, I don't think there needs to be any rush to get the squad completed by then.

No idea, but as I said, he's had only a week with the players and I doubt that is sufficient time for him to think "I probably only need two more", especially so far from the start of the league campaign and given two of those players appeared to be on our radar before his appointment.
