Apologies for the lack of updates from Melbourne. Since the Xmas eve (our quiet day), it all seems to have been a bit 100 miles an hour, and some things seem to have been sacrificed. Unfortunately, it would appear these reports and eating have gone by the wayside in our attempt to own Melbourne.

Xmas day was spent at the Crown Casino with a Barmy Army Xmas dinner. We had that Piers Morgan chap in the next room, and copious amounts of Champagne and a good time was had by all. We found our next adoptee during this meal, and one of our party was rather smitten with this maiden, but it would seem all attempts to cross the boundary rope were denied.

Day One at the test saw us sat up in the Gods. We like Aussies and 99% of them are brilliant. However there is a small percentage who get angry for angry's sake. Fair enough, we went dressed like a set of MCC members, and had you heard us you'd have thought we'd all gone to school with Boris, Cameron et al, but some of the natives just get incredibly angry. One particular gentleman decided that the best form of wit was to chuck a bottle of water over us. It was most refreshing to the extent that when he went to the toilet ten minutes later, we handed him another bottle of water wishing him better luck next time.

The slow scoring rate of Day One inspired us for Day Two. As anyone who has been to a test match will know, you are handed score cards by the sponsors with 4 and 6 on both sides. We decided changes were needed and we produced our own with 1 and 0 Dot Ball on opposing sides. We toffed up again and despite the surrender show as we finished off our innings, we took great delight with the first dot ball. The cards were used in a similar when one particular delivery left Monty lying in the floor with the "dot" part of "0 Dot Ball" covered up.

Our seats for Day Two were great. Level 2, cushioned seats and we had cup holders like they have at the Cinema. However, it was all a bit dull. And with the all the noise coming from Bay 13 (to give it its old name), we decided after tea that it would make great fun for a pair of Classic English gentlemen to pay our Antipodean friends a visit.

Our first attempt didn't even see us sit down.Comments such as "We Own You", "Who's face is on your banknotes" and "That bit in the top left hand corner of your flag is to remind you" didn't go down too well and our newly acquired friends showered us with gifts and waved incessantly.at us, whilst accusing us of a little bit of self abuse. The stewards escorted us out and but we found a different way back with a pair of seats amongst the lion's den.

What an angry bunch.

It perhaps didn't help leaping to our feet with every wicket, or our attempts to inform the locals that Stuart Broad is a bloody nice bloke (there are loads wearing t shirts saying Stuart Broad is a sh#t bloke) and he raises an awful amount of money for charity. I have to say that despite all the abuse we got, it was without a doubt the best two hours I have ever spent at the cricket, but there are some angry, angry people and they're very easy to confuse. The 3-0 thing was being rammed down our throats but we gave as good as we get and like before, the vast majority of the Aussies are fantastic people and we love them to bits especially with the stewards piling in every 30 seconds as it kicks off left, right and centre. "It's not your fault, it's in your genes"

Post game, a trip to the Precint discovered the only person smaller than TTNYear who isn't a professional jockey with several drinks bought for us. We retired down town to the lovely St Kilda to a club owned by the gentleman described as the "angry man in white" the other day. Unfortunately, our friends at Middle Park CC had took great delight in our thread from the other night, especially the bit offending the bar owner (or Cum Neck as he is now known following an unfortunate incident on Day One), but they looked after us with many a drink bought for us throughout the evening before two out of the three of us called it a day at around 2-30am having forgotten to eat since around breakfast yesterday. The third will no doubt have an away day review of his own having gone into bat with a young native.

Not sure how much longer my body will cope with this, and with the start of play an hour and a half away, today could be problematic. Given our style of dress, we have genuinely been invited into the Members section today, but with soaring temperatures over the past couple of days and 38 degrees promised for today, it might have been wise to bring more than one shirt. But who needs pleasant odours when you sport an MCC tie?

Excellent Col. Glad you're all enjoying yourselves. Please let TTNY know that the Company Cat has survived Christmas and is snoozing in her waterbed. I know he's worried, but his girlie saved the day whilst I was away, feeding the git tuna at £1 per tin per day. Cats aren't cheap, especially the ones which eat.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Great pictures lads and fantastic outfits. TTN looks like he his constantly pi**ed. The ashes might have gone but you are witnessing a cracking test match that could go either way. Take care and the updates are a cracking read.

Me neither

Its one thing being outplayed, another to be determined to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

Plus, England still batting at the close with a lead of 250+ would have almost guaranteed the game going into the fifth day, and more value for money for our lads out there
