Strange set of circumstances at York City.
They're reported as having "sacked" him as manager yet in their statement say that they didn't want him to leave the club!?
They then elaborate by saying that Askey allegedly went to the board saying that he would like to resign but due to personal circumstances he couldn't afford to do so, basically asking them to dismiss him so he could would get a payout.
Bizarre.

50% of his job was coaching, 50% managing. The board only wanted him to coach, and pay him half his salary. They wanted half a Askey.

New owner/chairman with 51% stake (Trust have the other 49%), been at the club a few months. Previous owner wasn't popular and fans hoped this one would prove better after saying all the right things at the outset. Wasn't long before the big ego became evident, started meddling in on pitch matters, all about him etc. Sound familiar? Personality clash with the manager, undermining him in interviews, and now Askey's gone. Probably always wanted his 'own man' in and now gets that chance.

Suspect Askey could see that writing on the wall a couple of months ago hence looking our way. Bit of he said she said playing out about the exact detail of the departure, truth probably somewhere in the middle as always.

Fans largely gutted and angry - not had great results the last few weeks but is looking like a solid mid table consolidation season after promotion last year and Askey was generally very popular. A story been seen many times before and another reminder that even though money's tight at our place and it's a bit of a slog on the pitch at the mo' it's often a case of better the devil you know.

Mad pay rises and a non-EFL job for Roger should it ever happen.
