| The last post and silence on 19:46 - Nov 7 by Northernr | I haven't been around much this week, and am obviously travelling to Sheffield tomorrow where apparently even the simple business of going for a couple of beers with my mates in a city I grew up in is going to be complicated by pub closures and police presence because the right want to march on a Holiday Inn and the left want to stop that happening. I am begging you guys to keep this thread respectful. I think there's been a decent exchange of views here, at times borderline and I've deleted a couple of posts I thought were out of order, but a good conversation. Please keep it that way. We're all QPR. I'll always have my poppy on. I stood through a minutes silence with my grandad, my dad and Stuart (parachute regiment, serious sht) who all made me very aware of its importance. JamesB's first post on this thread was spot on, for me. I stood at the top of the steps to F Block on Weds and was quite moved by the total silence in the ground, with the fireworks bursting overhead. But I also agree with SL's subsequent post that the performative nonsense at football and elsewhere - who can be more respectful, mascots dressed as poppies, people screaming "where's your poppy" at James McLean etc - is just a nonsense. If you go home and away you're going through these parades three or four times every season. Port Vale did theirs on October 27 for goodness sake because it was on Sky. Both managers, both chairmen, both captains, all laying a wreath. It was like a bloody florists in the centre circle. That's not respectful or remembrance or whatever, that's performative. The big thing I remember from Remembrance when I was younger was "never again". You don't hear that so much any more. Please be kind to each other this weekend.

"The big thing I remember from Remembrance when I was younger was "never again". You don't hear that so much any more." Great point, I had noticed that too. I can't know for sure - I'm not a military veteran, my closest link is my grandad who spent WW2 on England's coasts attempting to blast the Luftwaffe to kingdom come - but I suspect those who lost colleagues in wars would feel disappointed that this message sometimes fails to come across. I saw a documentary about the First World War once in which a German soldier who was in the trenches made a comment which has stuck with me ever since: "Even the rats were terrified".
| "Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1." |

| The last post and silence on 20:19 - Nov 7 by NorrisGreen | Pretty sure Leeds did their remembrance two weeks ago tonight against West Ham (its 7th tonight). I did think it a bit odd doing it nigh on 3 weeks before 11/11 in mid'ish October but I suppose it was a quirk of the fixture list. Wonder how many times Leeds and West Ham players will do the minute's respect over this period - could well be three times I suppose. |
West Ham getting vilified on Twitter at the moment, led by that poisonous dwarf, for not wearing the poppy. Not even sure if it's fake news or not yet!

I can't watch the laying of wreaths at the Cenotaph, It all seems so false, so called Royalty followed by so called Celebrities. Quietly pay your respects In your own way If you want to, sit down with a cup of tea and have a minutes peace and quiet and give a thought to those poor bastards (Men and Women) who never came back home. War Is People's fault.

| The last post and silence on 02:55 - Nov 8 with 2343 views | FredManRave | Such a shame that the original post and underlying sentiments of something so powerful and humbling, have been hijacked and has resulted in what we now see in the following 7 pages. A shame and an indictment of the world we now live in, where people can't just respect the original message and offer their sincere appreciation for the sacrifices made. That was the aim of the original message and, quite simple, any follow up messages should have backed up that sentiment, imo. Unsurprisingly, the second post on the thread derailed the initial intention and resulted in the following 7 pages of acrimonious back and forth. Really, all that was asked was to pay your respects to those that fell in both World Wars. Anything political should not have been included in the original thread, which had a basic and simple premise of being appreciative of those that made the ultimate sacrifice for us. Some people just can't help themselves. Very sad that they can't see the bigger picture. Still, at least they got the attention that they crave, whilst not being bothered about the unbelievable lack of self awareness they showed and not to mention an obvious lack of respect for Clive and the unbelievable efforts, stress and time that he puts in to providing the best Fans Forum, ever. 100% no disclaimer. Still, some people will continue to peddle their own agenda on a football forum, that I would assume has put many off posting here. This is a QPR football forum for football fans that have one thing in common - QPR. If you want to talk politics, or just love the sound of your own voice then go elsewhere. | |

A very moving and emotional experience, especially when they brought in two children that were orphaned after their father was killed in Afghanistan 4 months before his youngest was born. Abide with me always chokes me up for some reason, and so does the poppy release at the end. I will still watch tonight’s again because we didn’t have the best view of the show.

Yes. Trouble is, Remembrance Sunday came about as a quieter and easier day for things to stop at 11am in comparison to say, Tuesday 11th. Then you get sporting events doing it at any random point they feel like, eg Leeds 2 weeks ago. So, the whole thing gets spread a bit thin.
