Big away support, plenty of hope and this isn’t anywhere near over.

The first 10 minutes we were brilliant.

We had little glimpses after in the first half but what really got to me was the lack of urgency after the 2nd goal.

There were times after a set piece when wba had alot of ayers in our bix when one or both wingers or even vip didnt make an effort to get upfield to put their remaining defenders under pressure, it slowly got worse and we all know what happened in second half.

We should have kept up the pressure that got us the 2 early goals, if we had scored a 3rd it would have finished them off.

I feel for matos, I just hope hes got the mettle for a fight and more importantly importantly the players have but atm I dont think they have.

We just have to not lose both upcoming games.

Agree with this completely. From 2-0 we weren’t pressuring them into mistakes and we weren’t showing for the ball which often led to two or three passes then our fullbacks getting swarmed on and resorting to aimless balls down the line. Made it easy for a poor team who would also have been short of confidence.

Question for people who were there - How was Matos on the touchline after we went into our shell halfway through the first half? I’d like to think he was going mental, as it was obvious even on a stream that we abandoned our game plan. He doesn’t seem the screaming and shouting type though.

I can only comment on the few times I noticed.

No going mental.

Applauding some things and a bit of position pointing, as in trying to get the team moving from sitting deep.

So summing up quiet support. Hope he points out all the deficiencies in the debrief

That’s kind of what I expected. He doesn’t come across as a ranter, but that’s just based on the Derby game when he’d just been appointed and his interviews.

I appreciate there’s a time to sit off and hang on to a lead, but I can’t believe the change in intensity after half an hour was his instruction.

Are they just not yet conditioned enough to play like that for very long?

If he wasn’t angry then we are sxrewed
That capitulation was unforgivable
His first interview was impressive but I’m rather less sanguine now
We need anger to to channel it onto the field and not lie down and accept this shyte
I truly hope we have not buggered it up for all time here

Neither full backs should be with us come January

The loans can all return

Hope folks , hope

I don't think they are conditioned to play a high press game.
You can visibly see players tiring after 60 mins and subs coming on seem to amble and not press.
That has to be a major concern as it's the style of play expected going forward.

In which case we should abandon any notion of playing that way
It worries me we have brought in a Bosch to play just one way and that way can’t be done with the players we have
No have a striker Gawd bless him and Galbraith who is a diamond so it’s something

We need to coach defence as to the basics of football

Basics are what will keep us up

It’s the sort of thing that comes over time. We were very slow paced under Sheehan. To be honest, we have been under all of the last four managers.

We did play well for maybe 25 minutes, but after that we were abysmal. As soon as one players intensity drops, gaps appear, we become easier to play through and the system falls apart.

You’re right about the subs. They rarely change games for us.

4 managers eh? What’s the common denominator here?

Yep
Fullbacks mark wide men not giving them space and time on the ball and tackling to get the ball , our wingers track their advancing fullbacks and cover ours, our midfielders mark their opposite numbers putting them under pressure and tackling to win the ball back ,centre backs cover Centre forward and fight for the ball in the air and clear it from the danger area
When we have the ball, our midfielders move around looking for the ball instead of being like statues and dragging defending midfielders creating space for a forward pass o run upfield ,our defence push up together and crucially when our wingers get the ball they actually try to beat a man and cross into the box creating chances to score
If we lose the ball ,get back into defensive positions and reset
Oh and I know I keep on about this…..
Stop faffing around at the back and play the ball forward quicker

Something like that would be better than what we’ve seen recently

Forgot to add
A keeper who commands his area is alert and mobile to any danger and good in the air ,not stuck on the line
