Is Formula 1 bent? 22:15 - Dec 1 with 871 viewsDorsetIan

It seems very convenient to me that Formula 1 reaches its climax next weekend with three drivers still in contention for the title.

Oscar Piastri was storming along in the Championship and then inexplicably went off the boil which allowed Lando Norris to catch up and then take over the title lead.

Then both Piastri and Norris get disqualified in the same race, allowing Verstappen to catch up.

Then suddenly Piastri finds his form again this weekend just gone.

It all feels very fishy to me. Over to you Jelly to fill in the gaps for me.

No I don't believe it is other than the 2 Arab states plus Vegas get the last 3 races which are potentially going to be the exciting ones with a title to play for
There is too much to play for by the teams to pass brown envelopes around
Yes this season is the first for quite a few years where potentially 3 drivers could win the Championship which does make it exciting, but I don't think they've already decided who it will be

Of course it is. It has been ever since they have been relying on the viewing figures for Drive to Survive. They need good 'content'.

Remember when they made the rules up as the final race was in progress when Lewis got screwed out of the title.

Flavio Briatore who fixed a race by telling his driver to crash is currently a team principal. Ecclestone was a crook and plenty more besides. Yup, it's bent.

I feel this one is beneath me Ian!

I wholly disapprove of what you say and will defend to the death your right to say it.

I once watched it avidly, not any more however because It’s now over hyped nonsense.

I believe I’m correct in saying that a couple of weeks ago two cars were disqualified after a race because the wooden skid boards under them were not thick enough.

When tested the discrepancy was found to be the thickness of a human hair or so it was suggested.

Exactly. The two Championship leaders, the disqualification allowed Verstappen to catch them both up!

That's a shame,Jelly. I assumed you had your finger on all secretive fixes and manipulations, especially where big money and the MSM were involved.

And it's NOT a Sport.
Any event that can be won or lost by a pit stop is crazy.
It's not a test of Driver skills.
A combination of any so called Sport & gambling will breed corruption.
How many on this forum are interested in Formula one, NOT many I bet.
( there you go, it's even got me gambling).

I have been attending Grands Prix since Fangio was World Champion and this ain't motor racing. If I had to choose between Football and motor racing, the latter would always win.

My. Nursery had wallpaper with racing cars on. I would always point to the red one so my first words were "Alfa Romeo". Dad built an F4 car in a garage somewhere in Shirley or Bitterne (having previously blown the doors off thee home garage while making the mould. I learned at his knee so early sixties to late Seventies in answer to your question but it has never been anything less than a passion.

60s and 70s were a golden age - Hill, Stewart,Clark, Lauda, Hunt.

I had a friend who was a mad Ferrari fan and the first Championship I can really remember was probably Piquet in 1981.

I went to a few UK Grands Prix in the mid-80s, watching Prost, Senna and later Mansell, but then it dropped off a bit for me. Especially during those periods of domination by e.g. Schumacher, Hamilton etc.

I still enjoy watching on the TV but it's so polished now (and this year's tight finished feels very dodgy!)

Team sport, and the pitch crew are part of that team. It was wrong however when McClaren told Piastri to give place to Lando due to a bad pit stop
