Sent to Coventry (hopefully not again) QPR vs Coventry Match Thread 09:48 - Jan 30 with 43007 viewsSpaceman_P

Duty calls and the fans have pleaded.

If Ronnie is on the pitch we've got this given Cov's own dip im form.

Heart says 2-1

Brain says 1-2

Personally would take a 0 - 0.

No sky blue feelings, we had that last weekend.

Queens Park Rangers 6 Coventry City 0

And we win on away goals rule!!!

I also see no reason to forego my usual 6-0 Rangers, Dembele first goal win double. Albeit the odds aren't looking as generous this morning, which is typical when Spaceman_P does the Fred.

This team plays, at best, one good half of two, and one half-decent game every five if we're lucky.

The manager talks in his usual contentless generalities about 'learning', looking for 'solutions' and being 'prepared', but I don't think he or his team learn. Or, there seems something new to learn every week.

Till last time out, the defence, I suppose, has been doing well, and we scored a couple of nice goals v Wrexham. But we rarely, if ever, put anyone to the sword.

The handful of injuries feel almost like a crutch.

I think Coventry's slump in form has been a little overstated (they looked good against Norwich despite losing) and ours a little understated (I know we've had loads of injuries but we've been playing really poorly for a while now).

Really hope I'm wrong, but I'm struggling to see anything other than a Cov win today, and would absolutely settle for a point against the league leaders if offered it. JS and the squad are clearly working hard, but it feels like we're still some way off our best.

For me, the main things to look out for are going to be consistency and fitness levels. If we play well for 90 minutes and lose to a better team, then that's still an improvement on recent weeks. Another 45 minutes of dross, and half the team running on fumes after an hour, would be more worrying.

Agree with this. It's ridiculous and embarrassing we still can't play credibly for a whole game. This has been an issue since the start of the season, regardless of personnel, and it makes me tear my hair out that JS clearly operates from such a low bar. Where are his own metrics for improvement? I anticipate we'll get 30-35 minutes from them again today in front of a packed house, during which time we may well score a goal, before they cruise past us. Followed by the manager shrugging and smiling, as he tells us 'we have to learn from this' and 'we move on to what will be another difficult game'.

In a nutshell, low expectations, eclipsed by the dark sun of hope.

I'm sure they will 100% want to get something out of the game and will have prepared for it (i.e. you have been told many times that JS's pressers are just soundbites in which he sounds upbeat to conjure up some optimism ...)

Anyway, with regard to this afternoon my biggest concern is that Kone is far from the complete number nine and we do not have a system which allows him to be below par (additionally I'm not sure the second striker, whoever that may be today, will be a sufficient Burrell replacement). Anyway, hopefully, a Dembele, Vale, Smyth, Saito shot goes in and we can cling onto something.

I can't see it as anything other than a valliant 0-2. I hope I'm wrong and we get at least a point.

2 left footers on bench and we start with smyth on the left where he has shown nothing of note when starting on the left ?
Smyth is ideal replacement for vale when needed so waste of a sub there when the time comes around 45 mins but in julienne world will be closer to 70 mins !
Ronnie straight in at the deep end when he could have been eased in quite err … easily?

Just looks like a chronic lack of pace, which is odd as I'm pretty sure we all thought that had been rectified.

At least the weather is nice on my journey to HQ.

How many of us are now glad Cookie evoked his further year (that is of course what happened) ?

We would have been a whole lot worse without him

Be interesting to see whether Dunne or Edwards plays at RB.
Saito and Esquerdinha fit but only on the bench.

Glad we have Saito and Kolli as attacking options, and that Field is still here.

Never knowingly right.

Because I remember Edwards having his worse game for us when he played RB, I'm hoping he's at CB and Dunne at RB.

Would also much rather see him at CB, the ability to play the ball out of defense is more valuable there.

I know it's been done to death, but scrolling past the line ups on FotMob to the injured / suspended section is hilarious really.

This all day.

Jimmy should not have spent that year learning RB to not play there when we need one.

Can we go out yet?

Genuinely feel we may need to get rid of Jake Glass Shattered this summer bloke is a good player but absolute liability.
