The truth is never ever black & white, Lowe did some good things for Saints and he made some mistakes, he should be rightly blamed for the mistakes he made, but as someone pointed out the man who started our downfall was Michael Wilde who signed players for wages that the club did not have the money to pay and put us on the brink of oblivion.
One thing Lowe should not be blamed for was when he returned, he came back to a club that was on the verge of administration before the season even started, he did not sack Nigel Pearson, Pearson was only on a deal to the end of the previous season, the club could not afford Pearson and indeed the manager did not want to take charge of a club that had no money, could go bankrupt at any time and was having to try and sell players to get money to pay the bills and play youngsters.
Lowe was stupid for coming back, he did his best to try and keep the club afloat, but ultimately got no kudos for that just got blamed for a financial situation that was not of his making.
This of course does not fit in with the romanticised version of events. |  |

One thing I'll rate him for is that he never feared meeting the fans. I'm not talking about a cherry picked fan group but at least once a year he rocked up in a London pub and met the London saints. Sure he did it for northern saints too. Also would take away sensible suggestions to implement if possible. | |

OK so he didn't renew Nigel Pearson's contract, probably because Pearson didn't kiss his arse and to fly in the face of general opinion. Pearson would almost certainly avoided Saints relegation.
Look at Watford now.
Brought in Wigley, Woodward, then the final insult - Redknapp to take Saints down.
Redknapp, who then stated he wanted a break from football, then went straight back to Portsmouth.

Seem to recall Lowe, McMen, Souness and a few other board members doing very nicely when Secure Retirements or whatever they were called got involved with our flotation.
Mind you, for all things bad Lowe did, the stadium was all his and Cowans baby so absolute respect for delivering a stadium which was long, long overdue.
Make no doubts, without St. Marys i personally do not believe Marcus or any other sound investor would have saved us if we had not have had such a decent infrastructure. Marcus could not lose on his £15m investment as the ground, Staplewood etc. would have comfortably covered his loan. |  |

Sorry but you really do need to read up on a subject before spouting off on it.
Lowe was not a board member when the reverse takeover happened, he arrived at the Dell as part of that reverse takeover and yes he did benefit, but he unlike several other so called local businessmen who did benefit did so as a business opportunity for himself, not shafting a football club he professed to be a lifelong supporter of.
McMenemy would have been a minor shareholder and would have had little benefit and Souness was the team manager and not a board member not a shareholder and would have had no financial gain.

Iirc askham and co absolutely f8cked the club over the only ones to gain from the deal was them making a fortune from their shares, investing nothing but making loads. Lowe became a reluctant chairman and we embarked on our self sustainable model of transfers being funded by sales. Sound familiar? | |
