Top 3 Koeman signings 06:16 - Nov 7 with 1695 viewsPatfromPoole

1. Oriol
2. Shane
3. Tadic

Am factoring in length of service, loyalty etc.

Therefore ignoring obvious options like van Dijk, Mane, Wanyama, Pelle and Alderweireld, who were all great players, but not actually with us for that long.

Did consider Bertrand and Forster.

Didn’t consider Cedric or Martina.

I'd sooner see Forster between the sticks than anybody we have now.

I would have Bertrand in ahead of Tadic, but I think you are right with Romeu & Long

To think people used to moan about Shane Long considering what we have these days. 🤣

I couldn't stand Long. In fact he would probably fit right in now as he had a total inability to put the ball in the net.
People remember "that" goal, and fair enough, but I remember the sheer number of one on ones, and the chances in the 6 yard box where he hit the keeper. One of the most infuriating players I've ever seen. The number of times he cost us getting a draw or a win because he could not finish simple chances.
He was so bad he made Che Adams look clinical.

Shane is exactly what we need now.

Quick, very brave, won countless free-kicks and pushed us up the pitch.

If you look at Damion Downs, he is pretty much the polar opposite.

I loved him.

We have a Shane Long in Adam Armstrong, Long was never the big centre forward that we need now, so from that respect you are right he is the polar opposite,

When Shane Long arrived at Saints in 2014, he took 10 League games to score a goal, as in a previous post on this thread there were many who did not appreciate his talents, I was not one of them, I appreciated the hard work he put in.

You are right he won countless free kicks and pushed us up the pitch, he chased back and defended from the front.

Tongue in cheek point of order, when I praised Sekou Mara for chasing back at Hull and winning a free kick that enabled us to then push up the pitch and score a late winner, you ridiculed me for that

Shane Long would look bigger and more intimidating in the goal than Baz

Oh Shane Long worked hard no doubt.
He did also chase lost causes, get there first, then collapsed to win a free kick. I didnt find that great watch and expect more from a pl player.
He also scored 28 league goals in 198 games so one every 7 games and was paid millions during his time here.
It's about opinions but I just wasn't a fan of his style.
I like forwards who have more ambition on the ball than just collapsing to get a free kick.

Shane had a really good leap on him, and would often win headers against taller defenders.

Don’t think Armstrong has this.

As for Sekou, “that” tackle has taken on almost legendary status

Just looked at Pelle's career stats and didn't realise what a late bloomer he was.

First 10 years of his career from 2003-2013 he managed the grand total of 31 goals.

Then he went to Feyenoord and scored 50 in 2 seasons.

23 in 2 seasons for us before he went to the Chinese league.

Still hope for Damion Downs then in about 8 years!

Pelle was his best signing by far. Goals! Loads and classy ones at that also he signed Mane, and VVD. They are his best three signings
