Well I’ve only just seen the clip but one of the AR’s to the Liverpool-Arsenal game has supposedly elbowed Andy Robertson in the neck at halftime. Although whether Robertson started it, and whether it’s intentional or not isn’t the clearest I do think it’s a sign of what’s to change.
As there’s no coincidence of this, that Mitrovic incident and the Mexican ref kicking a player in the balls all happening within the last week… |  |

Interestingly, Roy Keane was standing up for the referee, calling Robertson a big baby and should be concentrating on the game. Well I’ve now had a decent look at it from certain angles and what seemed to of happened was the AR tried Robertson off of him, after he grabbed him. As that’s all he’s done, just simply shrugged his hand off which lead to a slight bit of contact, with no real force, into Robertson face…
As if he ain’t grabbed in the first place by Robertson none of this happens, as if your gonna discipline the AR then I guess Robertson needs it as well for grabbing him in the first place!
Which is just nonsense, just the same as disciplining the AR, which is why really I’d hope the FA/PL won’t do anything as the AR had no intent and had a right to get him off of him | |

But unfortunately refs can’t do too much about these issues because some have nothing to prevent them under the LOTG (aka fake injuries which I also had loads of in one of the game I officiated in today), time wasting is something that more inhurty time during next season can hopefully prevent, and the abuse/dissent towards officials is one where unfortunately it just isn’t going to happen any time soon!
But yeah we’ll all I can say is that if the AR is banned then I think there may be a few strikes coming our way from what I’ve heard… | |

Keane was brilliant, as well as saying he was a baby, I think it was a bit more that just concentrating on the game it was more specific and concentrate on his defending!

If he is punished and Robertson gets away with it then the officials should consider a 1 week strike.

And yeah well back when I officiated lower age categories a while back, or when I sometimes mentor some of the younger/newer refs doing them, see that sorta stuff all the time with kids covering their mouths, diving, contesting every decision etc… but it’s not just the players but also the parents and coaches too, acting like every games the World Cup final and all coaches thinking that they’re Mourinho, in the prem with world class officials and facilities where everything’s gotta go the way they want it to!

If the AR did intend to strike Robertson (and I don't think he did, he was just swatting away a fly) then frankly it's been a long time coming and the blame is squarely at the feet of the players and managers.
For too long players have considered it acceptable to surround a ref and shout in his face.and to wave their arms around and generally act like spoilt kids.
It was inevitable that something like this would happen and I'm surprised it's not happening every week.
The respect that refs (and ARs) should have is missing and if they do strike and refuse to attend matches for a couple of weeks, that will not restore the balance but it will be a step in the right diretion. | | | |
