The worst Premier League teams of all time 20:03 - Apr 28 with 2701 viewsdirk_doone

Off the top of my head, I could only think of the 2005/06 Sunderland and 2007/08 Derby teams that were worse than this Saints team but I've looked it up and it seems there were a few others as well:

8 Lowest Points Totals in Premier League History

1. Derby — 11 (2007/08)
2. Sunderland — 15 (2005/06)
3. Huddersfield — 16 (2018/19)
4. Aston Villa — 17 (2015/16)
5. Sunderland — 19 (2002/03)
6. Portsmouth — 19 (2009/10)
7. Norwich — 21 (2019/20)
8. Watford — 24 (1990/00)

Out of all of them, only one has really come back and that's Villa. Usually, when you are this bad, you don't recover for a very long time.

Yep, that is totally correct.

So, with our low of 28 points, we just about manage to squeeze into the top 20 of lowest points totals.

I guess your team will be claiming a top 20 place at the expense of our club.

If you keep up the low scoring rate, you might even sneak into the top ten. What an achievement.

That Dirk Doone is a bit obsessed isn't he?

Obsessed…. says the man that pretty much instantly replies when Pompey are mentioned.

Of course you lost 9 points because your club cheated and lived way beyond its means. So had you not signed players that you couldn’t of afforded then you might have threatened Derby’s record.

..... instantly replies, but actually probably haven't put any posts on here for 3 months, and possibly only 2 or times in the last year.

We sold most of our best players ...... so your argument doesn't really work does it?

Anyway, if you guys don't get any more points, you will be in the top 10. That will be your club getting in the record books again.

Why did you sell your best players? Because you spent beyond mean and forgot to pay your tax. Cheating hence you lost those points.

Because the owner had his assets frozen. You need to read a bit more.

and the debt was peanuts compared to this list

Oh come on! It wasn't peanuts at the time.

The players and staff non payment of NI contributions was horrific and simply criminal to the entire British Public. And I'm not even talking about the other debts to other small businesses and even my old school (!) so conveniently diluted and brushed away. This will all be forever a stain on pfc.

So much so that HMRC quite rightly took the club to court as most of us know .

The points total is irrelevant, it is never what you have done, it is what you do next, some will rant and rave about the club being rotten from top to bottom, but on the face of it at the moment that doesn't appear to be the case if we look at it clinically and dont let emotion take over.

If we go down we will probably sell 6 players for £150-200 million and a few more for lesser figures.

We will still have the basis of a decent Championship side with plenty of emerging youngsters and indeed some experienced players at Championship level, unlike the most of the teams mentioned and indeed like in 2005 for us, we don't have a team full of ageing has beens and underachievers.

Spending perhaps £50 million of the money raked in would see us have a squad more than capable of mounting a promotion campaign.

A lot on here rant about 9-0 defeats etc, Bournemouth had one this season but stayed up, this season is a blow, but it does not have to be terminal

We're a team of ageing never will bees and underachievers.

Not sure what the reference to the B'muff 9-0 is. We stayed up in both seasons we had a 9-0.
