Generally agree with this. Where it differs slightly is where you follow your parents. I was born and bred Hampshire so it was never a debate that I would support a Hampshire team and geographically (thankfully) Southampton was the nearest Hampshire club - however, in terms of miles, Reading were the nearest team but I did not want any relationship with a club outside of Hampshire.
However, shortly after my son was born we moved to Yorkshire and technically his nearest clubs (as he was growing up) were either Hull City or York City - I have no issue with either of them, but he supports Saints because I naturally took him to games with me as a child and even now he is grown up he will go to Southampton games. |

I really don't know how we can criticise Peretz after a game like that. I am not saying he was perfect but neither were our forwards the week before against Bolton. Had Peretz not made the saves he did we would have lost that game by 2 or 3 goals instead of winning it. What perhaps it highlighted is that at times we gave WHU too much space to cut through our midfield and defence which resulted in the need for Peretz to make so many saves.
It was a great game though and a great watch. I am glad I was there to see it, despite the rubbish ground, the dreadful weather and yes, the number of checks to get in are excessive. But a great day out and made the c500 mile round trip (on train) worth it. |

I have not seen anything thus far to suggest Dobbin is an improvement on Archer. Arguably, maybe not even at Archer level. Hopefully I will be proved wrong but it needs to start happening now really. |

It goes to show what we all knew that not investing in a decent striker may be the difference between promotion and not. |

As you all know, I am not prone to bouts of optimism when it comes to my team and such bouts are as a rare as a DoDo at a Christmas party but I do feel that with the right team under Eckert we could get there again but we can't afford to do things like we have this year and not invest in key areas and then expect to get to the next level. |

This is really going back to the past and showing my age, but does talent spotting or scouting exist any more? I am sure (certainly under Bates and McMenemy) we picked up a few gems from scouting? (now you are going to ask Who, and I can't remember)....lol. |

I thought it was a professional performance last night without any dramatics. To the neutral there was probably not much to get excited about. But, it was a good away win and very much needed as our away results had been letting us down.
If we can win at the weekend, 9 points in a week will be a great return. But, Bolton have started turning a corner, so we can't afford to be complacent. West Ham away the following week will be a different kettle of fish - perhaps the ultimate test of our ability, resilience and prospects. |

I can't top anything that was said. It was a great day out. Great atmosphere, professional performance and I actually do enjoy our fanzone..
It is rare for me (I hear you all saying), but I have nothing to moan about. Days like yesterday are what makes football special. |

I think it is the acoustics of our ground as this debate about vocal support keeps coming up.
I was in Kingsland and not far from them and I could hear them quite a bit but similarly I thought our vocal support was poor until towards the end of the game. However, my brother was in the opposite stand and said he could not hear the Skates at all and thought our vocal support was good for the most part.
I did not see any problems fan behaviour wise. The usual baiting and banter but nothing extraordinary. |

The 1984 cup tie has never been surpassed for me. It was such an atmosphere, glorious result and consequently a glorious day. Yes, we may have had better and more convincing wins but that cup tie was something special. |

I don't know why the wait. It is inexplicable but I now think they will throw the book at Eckert and he won't be able to manage in England for a long time. Why? because I think cheating whatever the magnitude is now an issue in football (I am talking about off field cheating rather than the every day stuff we see on the pitch) that the various football authorities want to stamp out once and for all.
Of course what Eckert has done pails into insignificance compared to Man City, Chelsea, etc but at the end of the day he still broke the rules and was seeking to gain benefit from it. We are a small club with a relative small fan base. They have no reason to go soft on him and dealing with him severely will be seen as a further example of the FA, EFL, Pl, etc asserting themselves collectively on any wrong doing.
I am a huge Eckert fan and I will be sorry to see him go, but in the current climate I cannot see him remaining in his seat.
I could well be wrong as clearly I do not know and like everyone not in the know I am doing no more than speculating and second guessing but this my hunch. I just wish they would get on with it and announce the outcome whatever it is..........but timing wise - don't be surprised if it is Friday 9th October! |

I sure I echo everyone's feelings and that is, I just wish to christ this flipping saga would end and we get on with the football. I thought my organisation that I would for take long enough to make a decision etc but the FA takes the flipping biscuit. Sick of the whole damn thing.
Whatever the outcome, get on with it, announce it and then lets move on. I almost don't want an appeal option because that drags it out even longer (though I realise why there might be one).
As for the media. They have been awful but to some extent we never dealt with the media side at all. BBC have been so biased and yet you know had it been one of the big 6 it would have been different. A bit like Liverpool with The Sun we as a fanbase and club almost ought to do the same with the BBC and other elements of the media. |

Though I don't particularly find it that funny, it is just a bit of humour and not worth getting upset about. I don't want to see us start crying over something like the Middlesbro' management and fans. Just take it on the chin. As they say "revenge is a dish best served cold". |

I thought there were some really good performances. The 2 mentioned on the start of this thread and like others, I feel Matsuki will always give his all even if his all is not always perfect. I thought Scienza played well after a couple of indifferent performances and Azaz had a good game. We had a sloppy period before our 3rd goal and I could foresee an equaliser but overall the performance across the team was good. Bristol City will be another test and they have done quite well against us in the past. |

I was less bothered about Archer going, like anyone, if you get someone in that is an improvement on what you had. I am seeing absolutely nothing thus far in Dobbin to suggest he has much to offer, added any quality and is going to make a difference to our team. I hope I am proved wrong, but I/we need to be proved wrong soon as we cannot afford to have passengers on the pitch and in games (not that he is alone in not performing well at the moment). |

I wouldn't say it was a poor performance but more of an indifferent one. At times we looked quite good and Larin had a few chances which didn't seem to be going for him, but then again no one else looked like they were going to score. Peretz had a poor game in goal. At times he was very unsure and reminded me of his first few games with us. But our passing was astray and we looked a bit soft in midfield again. But, we did create chances and there were some good moments.
Birmingham was certainly equal to us and at times were the stronger side. Like Larin they missed a few good chances as well, so all in all, a draw seemed a fair result. Thus far I would say we have had an inconsistent start to the season performance wise, but we have certainly had a lot worse starts to the season in the past. We do need a win at Lincoln if we want to challenge at the top end. |
