The precedent was set years ago Jim. Workers pay for their jobs with diminishing pension rights and conditions. Been happening in both Private and Public Sectors since Labour were ousted and Austerity ruled.
Brexit will ensure this continues with knobs on as the Tories, free of EUworkers rights legislation, will ensure they diminish further.
Job security until they look for the next set of cuts in working conditions.

They've been trying to find a way to offload the BSPS for years.

Once the employees vote to close the Pension Scheme, the BSPS will be spun off into a separate Company - with no ties to Tata, using a Regulated Apportionment Agreement.

Then members will be offered the chance of transferring to BSPS 2017 where they will be offered modified benefits (not RPI increases but lower CPI increases) but generally better than the PPF - or staying in BSPS.

The original BSPS will then fall into the PPF - where, for the majority of members, the level of pension benefits will be lower than the new BSPS.
