A word being bandied around a lot at the moment. In its 'modern' sense we take it to be the removal or destruction of a large proportion of something. Yet its Latin derivation relates to one in ten-usually the execution of every tenth person involved in rebellion or mutiny. Both are correct but I hope that a team decimated by injuries or labour being decimated at the next election are just in the modern sense.
A pointless post but needed to help my sanity in grant writing.
