I heard there was a Catalan separatist addressing the Plaid conference last week telling them when they were going to declare independence and hoping the Welsh will gain independence in the future. Catalan flags were seen as a show of support by the Welsh.

So here's what's happening at the moment... to succeed in independence for Catalonia the separatist socialist parties must achieve certain things for it to work…
To have sovereignty, you need two things at least: international recognition and control over your territory.
Recognition has not been forthcoming from where it matters most… The European union, these guys are more interested in us and Brexit at the moment and can't be arsed with this nonsense ...(their opinion). No recognition from the Spanish government.
Madrid has invoked article 155 of the Spanish constitution, which allows it direct rule over a regional government. But the Spanish state has little presence in the region — Catalonia enjoys the highest possible level of autonomy, and to reassert itself, the central government may have to act forcefully.
So the fun and games start this week, the Spanish government have already replaced the new independent Catalonian Parliament with their own people who will go into work tomorrow. Of course there will be demonstrations and a general strike , The demonstrators plan to link arms outside the new parliament and the police intend to go in and break it up and make sure the new government sits down and passes various legislations.
So it's all set to kick-off this week, also new elections have been imposed by the Spanish government in Madrid for 50 days time to decide the outcome once and for all.This is a risky gamble for them it could either spell disaster for the socialist,separatist parties of Catalonia or if the vote is strong enough it could give them their independence that really has to be recognised by Madrid and the EU.
An interesting week ahead.

It's ridiculous not to recognise peoples right to self determination.
Self determination is a way of smashing imperialism and empires and breaking the World order that looks after the few at the expense of the many.

I'm all for that if it's done properly and recognised legally,but the vote is not recognised as being that by the European Union, the Spanish parliament and the British government.
Heres the statement they put out this week.
Theresa May has said the UK "does not recognise" the Catalan parliament's declaration of independence.
In a statement released by Downing Street the Prime Minister said: “The UK does not and will not recognise the Unilateral Declaration of Independence made by the Catalan regional parliament. It is based on a vote that was declared illegal by the Spanish courts.
"We continue to want to see the rule of law upheld, the Spanish Constitution respected, and Spanish unity preserved.”
So how the Welsh assembly can go against this I really don't know .

I think the Welsh national team should play an international at the nou camp against Catalonia as a show of support, we played the Basques in Bilbao when the armed struggle was still going on, it was Ryan Giggs only good game for Wales some would say.

Quite simple. The Assembly can vote on a motion put before it that recognises Catalonia as an independent state. It’ll be purely symbolic and is guaranteed not to pass though.

The powers that be are not are willing, they will not allow anything that threatens their power and wealth.
They will say that a free vote is illegal, they will say supporters of freedom are enemies of the state or terrorists, they just want to keep the jack boot on the throat of certain people's.

The latest EURACTIV report findings indicate that over 40% of Spanish children endure a life below the poverty line, the second highest figure in the western world. Only Greece ranks lower. What is it your Leanne wants, is it to see them tip over into starvation?

Even the USA has a higher level of overall taxation revenue as a percentage of GDP.
Successful countries like Norway, Sweden, Austria, Denmark etc pay much more taxes overall.
So do France ,Germany and Canada.
Perhaps Spain and the UK should increase taxation on those that can afford to pay and distribute it fairly to get a better society for its citizens.

It's what bullies do, locals get hurt and locals then get treated unfairly and badly. Then there is the possibility of incidents in the bullies own backyard leading to cries of terrorism etc. It would have all the making if the people had nothing to lose, that might not be the case in this instance so it might not reach the levels of a terrible conflict, but some people getting hurt, jailed for Porthcawl and even killed is possible.
