Why do some manufacturers insist on fitting them, in order that they blind oncoming drivers,surely they don't need to be so bright.

The word "likely" suggests that the research outcome is more of an educated case, rather than actual proof, but hey! they're "experts" and they never get things wrong.

Bit like Bob down the pub making the same educated guess, without getting paid a vast amount of money to do so.

The Scandinavian countries have been doing this for years, so it's not as if this is radical stuff. It wouldn't be necessary if people used common sense and put their headlights/sidelights on during twilight hours or when it's gloomy. It never ceases to amaze me the number of times you have people driving around without their lights on. Sometimes it can be an oversight rather than bad judgement, or people on long journeys starting in daytime not realising that they haven't got their lights on. In any event it's plain common sense to take human error out of the equation.

Does anyone seriously regard it as a serious infringement of their liberty to be have their lights on if that saves lives? Yet another manifestation of the evil EU empire?
