When this is all over and if the Lagoon would happen to go ahead ,
Wouldn't it be great if the could build a cable car system along the full stretch of he bay or even a maglev train system circling Swansea and possibly branching out to areas surrounding the city.
I'm sure swansea could be just has busy as places like Bournemouth, Brighton etc.
Obviously if we could get the investment, this would create employment and a vibrant City.

I wasn't in favour of the lagoon myself, but that first pic would have looked the same even with it

Not sure what the second pic is, nothing like what the tidal lagoon would have looked like

That second picture is an aerial picture of one of the world's current largest tidal lagoons.

Funnily enough, it doesn't look as appealing when compared to a graphically designed image designed with the purpose of making it look as beautiful as possible with the hope of getting somebody else to pay billions of pounds to fund it.

Leave them try it out in Brighton or somewhere first, mate of mine who was on a valley regeneration committee came out with this statement regarding wind turbines. "when you've got them on the Malvern Hills come back and we will talk".

Private Eye have been reporting on this project and the involvement of its backer Mr Shorrock. You would not want to invest in this scheme.
As for the development on Kilvey Hill. The New Zealand company behind the project are facing serious financial problems and have put the project on hold. I was fortunate to visit their facility in New Zealand in Feb, it will be a brilliant addition to Swansea.

They've knocked half the city down, lets hope they can rebuild.

The city of Artist Impressions.

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

I don't really see what this comment has to do with this thread, but anyway.

I wouldn't call less than £13k per house a boondoggle, especially in the current climate (no climate change pun intended). Heading in to a massive recession I would have thought a huge reduction in utilities bills would be quite welcome, not to mention the fact Swansea council are leading the way in building thousands of much needed social houses.

Plus of course the as these houses are to become mini powerstations means they could actually make a profit by selling energy to the grid, makes them seem like money well spent to me.

What this post has to do with the OP is that the Swansea Bay Lagoon project was another worthless boondoggle, which would produce a nice cycle path and not much else, apart from loads of cash for the developers.
There is some confusion in the article ie.
"Around £55,000 has been spent on each property."
and
"The report said it expected average retrofit costs of £25,000 per property to drop to below £20,000 through economies of scale."
I doubt the bungalows themselves were worth much more than £100,000 each.

To save, let's say £1000 a year, which is most unlikely, that will only be 55 years for payback.

Or for £25,000 it is "only" 25 years payback.

"Plus of course the as these houses are to become mini powerstations means they could actually make a profit by selling energy to the grid, makes them seem like money well spent to me. "
Typical socialist thinking, who do you think is going to pay them for their Electricity?
The poor bloody taxpayers, that is who, plus it disrupts the Power Grid.
But as long as you are happy with it say no more.

I am in almost complete agreement with you regarding the lagoon, it was nothing but a PR excercise that a lot of people were taken in by. The only part I disagree with you on is that I don't think it would even have delivered a cycle path. Thank God it was realised it was an expensive experiment before we squandered even more taxpayers money on it.

The lagoon consent order expires on the 30th June, if the scheme isn't dead already it's bleeding out.

Re the housing scheme I was only referring to the direct and indirect taxpayer funding, roughly equivalent to £13k per house in total, including the thousands of brand new builds. That's pretty good value.

The feed in tariff that I think you are referring too? That has been abandoned with excess energy being bought and paid for directly by energy providers. So yes, I'm relatively happy with that, and one day would be happy to live in a similar house.
