| Honour.ITV 1 last night 09:50 - Sep 30 with 1296 views | onehunglow | A very hard watch not least for the fact it begs the question,Is the killing of a daughter honourable .This applies to men who are Turks,Kurds,Pakistanis,Iraqis,in particular. Not my suggestion but points raised in programme. This girl was killed by father and uncles and buried in a suitcase. It was "celebrated" by the men in the family. Family honour said to me more important than life as without honour, nobody will want to marry their daughter. Both shocking police work then excellent determined work to bring these kunts tojutice via extradition from Iraq-the first ever | |

Im staggered at what Luther posted tbh as it infered(to me) that just our western culture saw arranged marriages/honour killings as somehow just our interpretation of what is right or wrong. Whatever religion you have,"culture" garrotting a young women, virtually imprisoning females, not allowing them to speak to men outside the family and treating those who defy that as worthy of killing ,it IS wrong. Very wrong

| Honour.ITV 1 last night on 12:08 - Oct 1 by theloneranger | The b@stards gang raped her, before she was garrotted with a length of wire. Familial values ?? Yeah right!! RIP Banaz. |
Yes according to the phone tap scripts from the programme they not only boasted of strangling the life out of her whilst standing on her neck, first they beat and raped her and said she never made a sound. Also said they would be hero’s in their own country. Family values indeed. Which reminds me of girl A in the Rochdale rapes, with the heaving ‘daddy’ telling her girls could have sex from the age of 11 ‘in my country’. What concerns me is in certain cultures and religions amongst the more prescribed adherents there is a hard core of values which totally undermines ‘our’ value of sexual equality. But still bringing values in from what they actually see as ‘their country’ which are in direct conflict with our own values. I recall an interview with a policewomen in this country where her Male Muslim colleagues mocked her for not being at home in the kitchen and for not wearing the scarf. Whilst certainly I am sure such sexual abuse is not representative of the majority of men in the force, it is obviously concerning that such group demeaning attitudes to women exist within the police. We cannot be taken back decades. What is the position when some religious / cultural freedoms, actively work against sexual equality. When we keep in mind that women have been one of the most oppressed and disenfranchised people on the planet back through the mists of time. Even today many still mentally and physically abused, treated as shattles and domestic and sex slaves. Patronising and disrespecting woman and very much worse should have no place in our society. Unlike the EU I have no wish to build the world in our own image, that is grossly patronising too, but we have the right to dictate what we do and do not see as acceptable within our own boundaries, within our own moral framework, which neither the EU, nor the rest of the world (neither before or after being built in the image of the EU) should have the right to dictate to us.
| Honour.ITV 1 last night on 14:26 - Oct 1 with 186 views | onehunglow | Excellent comments there A poster on here asked me to comment on how asian girls are abused by us white people.Well, sorry they are not or at least not in the same context although that poster I feel was simply on another agenda. I did enough time in "the job" and with family as serving officers to say that there are NO white gangs looking to rape and abuse pre pubescent asian girls. In fact ,,I would suggest,asian/muslim girls are a, not allowed out without being watched like hawks and 2,nor are they dressed up like tarts as many of our white girls are when going out.Morever asian girls do not drink, therfore no falling over in the street and vomitting into the gutter. In that respect,Asian girls Are in a better place .That said, many are not simply "free". So its swing and roundabouts. The fact this girl's callous killing and inhumane burial was celebrated -and it was, shows certain ethnicities have much to learn in order to take their place in a civilised society. Some northern former industrial towns like Rochdale and Rotherham have had a huge issue with this wholescale abuse of young white girls. Not racist but a fact. The way this abuse was mishandled by GMP and the subsequent apology is evidence alone of that. | |
