I just watched a brilliant video of a 2017 interview where he describes where he came from and how he developed his music and guitars. Fascinating. A true innovator where guitar manufacturing and playing is concerned.
I can play a bit but Im classically trained pianist and I know my music theory through many teen years of pain-that s because my teacher in Manselton ,Emrys Jones ,was brutal. He d be jailed these days.
Watching Van Halen is enough to set fire to all my equipment as his talent was natural .

He was also classically trained on the piano, but his teacher didn't realise he couldn't read music until about 4 years after they started. He just watched the teachers ifngers. He won prizes in kid's competitions. He actually wanted to be a drummer until he saw his brother play his drums, he gave him the drums and took up the Guitar. He tells a great story. Here is the video, well worth a watch.
