Welsh language 'gibberish' 14:47 - Feb 17 with 2926 viewsbritferry

Iceland has been forced to apologise after one of its bosses reportedly labelled the Welsh language “gibberish”.

The supermarket, which is headquartered in Deeside in Wales, insisted that a series of statements made by the director of corporate affairs did not “reflect” the company’s views.

It is thought that the statement by Keith Hann was made in a personal blog which has now been privatised. In the same blog, it is alleged he also said that the Welsh language sounded “like someone with bad catarrh clearing his throat”.

He's now been sacked.

We'll always have this though...

If you live in Wales ,you will speak English at some point.

Most who live in towns do not.Fact.

All who live in Wales are forced fed Welsh.

Most never use welsh outside school.

Many on here clearly not Swansea people so this debate is skewed from the start..

English is not forced. It s why interpreters are needed in much of east Lancashire and parts of Bradford because they do not have English as mother tongue nor are inclined to learn it.

All Welsh people speak Welsh especially when requesting money from clients

Sadly all Welsh people do not speak Welsh.

Are you getting confused ?

Welsh is a wonderful, unique language. It should be compulsory in Welsh schools.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

English is not forced. Try telling that to Bishopston Comp or indeed anywhere else in Wales.

The individual subjects are: English, Mathematics, Science, PE, Welsh, French, ICT, History, Geography, Religious Studies, Technology, Art, Music and Drama.

You are more than happy to force anyone to take every subject except Welsh which is the language of where we live. You think French or RS is more important. When will I use French if I dont go to French speaking countries. Why is RS compulsory. You dont have to follow a religion. You can go to church if you want to do that. Why do you have to take Art or History or Geography as examples.

And why again does this subject get personal.Understand this .You speak Welsh fine.Dont expect everyone else to enjoy it being forced on them as it is.

Nothing divides as this language does.

We are talking about a language .

I speak 3 others . If people want to rubbish them, then fine.

I would not force English on anyone. You shouldn’t enforce Welsh

3 others?

I didn’t realise Gibberish, nonsense and crap were classed as languages.

It's funny how Welsh chapels have disappeared over the years with us being loving our hymns/worship and choral work.

I like Welsh choirs as they are pillars of musical excellence

As with everything else you are way ot of date regarding religion in Wales. Chapels are closing because very few use them. As the older people have been dying off the younger ones havent taken their places. Chapels really have little support anywhere as many are just social groups. Many younger people go to different kinds of churches like Elim. It is nothing to do with the language. It is how society has changed.

I like hymns for the music content not the lyrics being very anti religion all of which kill and have done for generations.

My old girl was a hellava mezzo who sang in chapels up and down the valleys to a dozen or more .Loved the melody but detested the hypocrisy and cant of the actual services.

No doubt she's in burning hell awaiting my arrival where she'll be looking to tell me off and thrash me for giving lip. I miss the crazy ol girl like hell;frankly,it's the maon reason I have stopped going back but don't tell lifey or builth as they'll have me in that clevel pincer movement of theirs.

Pob hwyl
